Often requires port forwarding for MP to work
Lag (as expected) can be a non issue, or a massive problem (obviously, people on shite ISPs can and will host games)
9v9 is only for groundwar mode, 6v6 for the others.
No team balance.
No spectate.
Hm, does it have drop-in? Uncharted 2 - a fantastic game - has a relatively shite online because there's no ability for new players to join a game in progress, and also lacking autobalance it occasionally ends up with a shit round of 5v2

Also, personally, the 6v6 mp is a big deal breaker. I've played 6v6 cod4 rounds and it feels empty and slow and shitty. There's also the fact that this console-identical-online shit means there's a 90% chance (hurray!) of limited settings with regards to FF/Hardcore/etc, which again is another big deal breaker.

IW did say the private games settings would be pretty extensive, and that they would be able to add controls later if people want them.
Any word on how extensive those settings are, purchasers?

Didn't think of that, just done a little poking about.
Apparently you can add new people (but from the wording, I get the impression they can't just join)
Also noticed this handy snippet.
"You CANNOT kick anyone from your game. Cheaters, griefers, teamkillers, afk'ers, general idiots, you'll have to play alongside them forcefully because there's no way to get them out."

Not even vote kicking?
I can't see a single reason why I'd ever want to play, let alone BUY, MW2. The core gameplay may be good (as it'll be the same as cod4's) but... well I have cod4.
Also:

I believe the 'private games' on the console version of cod4 were unranked so you didn't level up or gain unlocks and things, so you'd be able to play with settings you want (well maybe, I'm not sure if the private games have settings that are as extensive as the cod4 server settings were. I'm leaning to 'close-but-not-quite') but don't get any exp/rewards/unlocks.
maybe I'm wrong though, can anyone with consoley cod4 (or mw2?) confirm any of that?

I'm going off of forum posts (from rational people, and not on the IW forum), and info from people I know.
So I can't be sure of anything, just passing on what I've heard and read.

No kicking. Wow, simply just wow.
Have IW hired a number of people who don't actually play online to design these new systems? The mind boggles.

So not only is it not balanced for lean, it's not balanced for balance

Having a lot of configuration options might have gone some way to redeeming the game in my eyes. Being able to switch on and off rules and weapons would be very useful if the 'server' remained ranked (unlikely though), but it doesn't really sound like it's in step with everything else they've done.

Berk impressions of the SP:
THEY'RE ON THE ROOVES!
It just doesn't seem as well thought out as the CoD4 one, a lot of it has gone from iffy, but vaguely military feeling, to James bond and tom clancy type crap.
However, I did start to enjoy it later on when it got back to sniperyness and combat, rather than waves and waves of dudes on rooves.
Unfortunately, this was interrupted remarkably often by vehicle sections and bits on rails. (and dudes not on rooves respawning lots)
Then it ended with a fucking quicktime event.
By my reckoning, activision now owe me £4.53 for playing their console port retardery.
Note: I'm aware the more commonly accepted plural of roof is roofs, but it doesn't sound right when you shout it, so I felt rooves more suitable for the job, so there.

Sounds like a cutscene was the best way to end it. After seeing the pisstake vid on the disco board, is this really touted as ultra-realistic combat? Doesn't look anywhere near it to me, not that I've ever been in combat. Mind you, neither did COD4.
At any rate, the SP never interested me. Thinking about it, I'm unlikely to ever get a really accurate viewpoint on the multiplayer because the only opinions I trust are my own and the collaborative hive-mind that is 5punk. And since neither are likely to play it, I'll probably never know whether it's any good despite what they've done.

I'll admit, i've bought MW2 on steam. I hold little faith in infinity ward (althought who knows, the millions of voices screaming then suddenly falling silent might cause them to prick up their ears a bit) but i hold a great deal of faith in the PC modding community. I'm sure, eventually, there will be some kind of workaround for dedicated servers, in time...
I could just be kidding myself however. I do that alot.

Maybe, but it'll still be without the nice career progression we got in COD4, and is it worth paying £40 for a mod? Oddly enough, I've been seeing MW2 everywhere while out and about today, but I've not seen a single copy for the PC.

It doesn't count.
I'm not sure how, but it doesn't count.

He's Hungarian - his input never counts!
For me the only interest I have in this game is for the SP. However it is only very slight interest for a few reasons:
1) The price - far too high, especially for a game with limited replay value due to the MP which I will never touch
2) The 'Tom Clancy' vibe that Berk mentioned. The early gameplay trailers looked promising, but everything I've seen since makes it look like a gun porn movie transferred into a game
3) The trailer. It contained Eminem and 50 Cent. I can't explain why, but in that instant I had an epiphany about the kind of person this game is catered towards. The kind of person who likes 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand. In other words, a consoletard.
If the gameplay/content/storyline had been more in line with CoD4 then I would have been more interested.

I've pretty much heard the entire single player story at this point, and there are parts of it that are just so... I don't know how to describe it other than drivel that only idiot 13 year olds would think was "cool". I very much doubt I could sit through some of the cutscenes I've heard about without going "urrghh"

This is
exactly the problem. Spoilered for those who care
Same kinda thing carries on throughout, has a few fun missions, but just a bit too much stupid.
Oh, and it's missing the awesomeness of the post-trailer map from cod4, just a load of shit challenges instead.
And they replaced the AC130 map with a UAV, but controlled by you, while in combat, far too fucking often

I'm officially done with the franchise now. Shame really considering how good 1, United Offensive, 2 and 4 were.
