Amusingly, looking at the floor I see:
14 Copies for xbox360
2 Copies for PC, both identical, and uncracked.

But they will all be in bed at that time.
Actually though, I don't think the market they are aiming for (teenage boy with a PC) is as small as we might think, indeed I suspect it is huge. Parents are often more happy to buy their youngsters PCs than game consoles as there is the hope that they will be used for more than just games and by more of the family.
I've been out to fix a few "family" PCs that have been used for games - they've bought them off-the-shelf and said their son wanted to play games on it and treat them much like games console. They're not fantastically overpowered, but do the job well enough. I could probably build them for the price of a games console.

I agree with all of that, but it still doesn't explain what they've done. (the complete removal of dedicated servers etc)
IMO L4D's solution is near ideal, Dead fucking simple to setup a game and play with your mates, more difficult to setup a game and play with your mates on a specific server, but by no means beyond the reasonably competent gamer.

Just played the first 3 hours of MW2's single player campaign and I have to admit I am enjoying it very much. The storyline is engaging and fast-paced, the gameplay is much the same as MW (which is not a bad thing) and the only reason I have stopped playing is because of work in the morning.
Also had a quick go on the multiplayer which was neither laggy nor crap contrary to bullshit you might hear. Some nice new ideas for unlocks, such as customising your killstreak "packages" and extra perks etc.
Didn't want to write a full review as I haven't really played enough but I did want to dispel some of the speculation bollocks I have heard in several places (including here)

That's a matter of opinion. I didn't like COD4's single player.

You've not qualified that with anything. Which platform were you playing it one? How many players were there? Were you the host?

Please don't call our speculations bollocks. For the most part I think they've been reasonable and far less reactionary than most of the wailing and gnashing of teeth heard on the internet at large. I'd be interested to hear the opinion of one of the game's critics.

Notes on witnessing the single player campaign:
- It no longer has any kind of relation to any kind of actual warfare, it's more like an action hero movie than ever
- It is a little harder than COD4 was on normal mode by the looks of it
- Rooftops! They're on the rooftops! THEY'RE ALWAYS ON THE ROOFTOPS!
- What plot?
- I am invincible behind my portable plastic wall. Except for when someone punches me once.
- Twin glocks = maximum torrent of bullets raining down on everything in front of you
- It's not bad, actually it's pretty f- oh, it's over already.

Fixed and joking of course. Please don't lynch me.

I don't think there was much speculation on the SP on here, let alone speculation bollocks.
Unless you're talking about the MP, in which case does it have dedicated servers on PC after all?, that would pretty much dispel our bullshit.

That is kind of what I mean though. As Bobbins said, the MP game is what has everyone up in arms. If someone who was a critic of what they've done, ie someone who cares about playing the MP game in the manner we want to, plays the game and says 'well actually the new server system's pretty good, I reckon we'd like the MP game after all', then I'd consider buying it. If they drop the price. After all, why would anyone
want a new game to be shit? Surely it's better to have a good game, even if you don't play it.

And for the most part it was less reactionary, but speculation nevertheless, also I wasn't specifically targeting 5punk so stop being so defensive doggers

Multiplayer stuff
Only really tested this out for one round just to see how this new none-dedicated server system worked, plus a quick look at what they had changed, hence why the sentence was brief. I'll be testing this further once I have finished the SP campaign.

I've only installed, not played it, but there are a few issues even there.
It comes on two DVDs, but requires online Steam activation to install, which might be annoying to people who don't already have Steam, here's what happens.
1. Insert DVD 1, it (installs and) runs Steam and asks for your keycode straight away. Now it's locked to whatever Steam account you just logged into - hopefully it's your own. This is before it's successfully installed, but it least it has tested you have some sort of internet to be able to log in to Steam. Of course you won't be able to sell it second-hand or lend it to a friend now.
2. It now starts the install process, C libraries, usual crap, 5 minutes of whirring and chugging.
3. Tries to contact Steam servers (it's still not installed at all, not even the compressed files). Fails. Busy Error, installer closes. You must now go back to step 2 (complete with 5 minutes of nothing) and try again - if you try to run it from Steam it will attempt to download the whole game.
4. Try enough times and eventually it installs, asks for Disk 2 and completes.
5. Does a small update through Steam (about 7MB)
I wonder how this compares to installing a swept version. My guess would be that is a lot quicker, has none of the restrictions about used copies and probably even plays a funky tune while it's installing. Obviously I wouldn't condone it, but the installation writers could learn a thing or two about giving their paying customers a better experience.
The process isn't unique to MW2, so I'm not bashing it further - I did buy it after all - just saying.

Never got the 3rd issue but I did have to become Swiss for 5 minutes to get it to let me install the small update because it said the servers were busy.

Amusing things I've heard so far, completely ignoring all the OMG IT RULEZ!!1 and OMG IT SUX!!1 posts.
Often requires port forwarding for MP to work
Lag (as expected) can be a non issue, or a massive problem (obviously, people on shite ISPs can and will host games)
9v9 is only for groundwar mode, 6v6 for the others.
No team balance.
No spectate.

It sounds like the only good thing about COD4 MP they kept is the fun gunplay. Everything else about it seems to be not as good.

Yep.
Unless I hear a lot of good about the MP from multiple sources, I'm not interested, I'll pay them for the SP when it's £15
