Thought I'd jump in on this and give my two cents on it as an ex employee
I think Fatherjack has done the right thing in making the news forum members only now, as the front page looks far better than it used to with the recent posts section, and gives a better understanding of our posts and what our content is like.
I think Deject could have put his point across a bit better than he did, as that sort of thing only annoys admins/mods, even if there is an underlying good suggestion within the post, and we are lucky here that we have admins/mods who are sensible enough to still use a good suggestion even when it's within a bit of a flame post.
Also, the 2 replies thing is a safer bet, unless of course you think everyone will be interested in a certain post, in which case you might as well move it straight away.
It's all about balance, as the News Feeds has definitely improved the forums activeness, as without the news posts, 5punkers just aren't posting new topics any more due to the drought in "Online PC Gaming", and there's only so many times you can discuss COD or Battlefield etc... (EVE is the exception due to it's organisation)
However, as most people have said, you don't want 5punk to appear to be a news grabbing site, which it definitely is not once it's under your skin and you are part of the community.
I think FJ has done all the right things here, and I'm glad he's taken over, and for the record I think he's doing a great job at keeping things ticking along nicely.
Maybe we could have a suggestions thread in the General forum, as every 6 months or so I used to look for 5punkers suggestions to give the site a kick up the bum and add new content/tools?

I agree, the front page looks far far better now. Striking the right balance is always going to be hard, but a "one size fits all" approach just isn't going to work.
I personally like the news feeds as I don't trawl other sites due to lack of time/motivation and so they provide info I wouldn't otherwise find. That said, I think they're best in the discreet News Feed forum unless they're likely to be of general interest, and so the previous method of moving them as and when it seems best. Overall though, Jack is doing a grand job of maintaining 5punk the way it was intended.
It may have come across as a bit of a flame, but I think Deej was going for the "Shock and Awe" approach. He can't help it though, he is only a merkin.

This is the second post from deject which has been a bit angry and complainy this week. I put it down to PMT or maybe he's being kept awake at night by some pesky eye-rakeez knocking over the trash cans in the backyard.
Either way all the mods/admins know deject and we know he's not spiteful, no harm done as far as I'm concerned. And even progress made. Woo!

I can't believe I watched through that without killing myself
"Labelism is a hate crime"
That was the line I nearly quoted too, but there were so many other gems in there too. There is a fundamental flaw in her desire of wanting to see a loving peaceful world, and wanting to punch a hole in the side of the head of anyone who hates emos. I wonder what her response to that would be in a sensible and reasoned debate?mrbobbins wrote:
