Suggestions please
I for one still don't enjoy trawling through three 'posts since your last visit' pages to find new forum posts..

This isn't the best solution but it is a quick fix; if you go into the news section and click 'mark all posts as read', it removes all the news posts from the normal 'view posts since last visit'.Grimmie wrote:I for one still don't enjoy trawling through three 'posts since your last visit' pages to find new forum posts..

There should be a way to exclude The Mac's posts from 'posts since your last visit', or *all* News posts - for those that use this function, which would be the preferred mode?
Also, this is now a suggestions thread to discuss ideas of things to do with 5punk - what forums we should keep/create, other stuff we should get rid of or add. I'll plop in a few as I think of them.
I finally got around to updating the main page and the donations page, so they reflect the current situation better.

Just lose it entirely, or change it to Other MMOG? It generates a small amount of interest whenever they have a free weekend, but not much beyond that.Lateralus wrote:As per my last post in the City of Heroes forum, I suggest we disband it. Nothing CoV/H related since April 6th...
Edit: Have done a bit of a prune on the News Feed forum. Anything not replied-to for 99 days has been chopped, am planning to reduce this and do anything unreplied-to in 7 days, each night, automatically. Note, this does not delete threads that have been moved to other forums, even though a link remains - only the stub is deleted. If you think this would be a problem, let me know. It can be turned off or extended if a forum mod is going on holiday for a while, etc.
I just meant amalgamate it into another forum, either Gaming or a generic mmong one. No point losing all the stuff altogether.
The automatic trimming of news feeds is a good idea though, and will keep certain people's post counts safe too.
Also, I generally check out the news feeds forum, but never beyond the first page if there are more than a page's worth of new ones.

Okays, two changes, but first many thanks to Fear for his assistance with this.
1. View posts since last visit http://www.5punk.co.uk/phpbb/search.php ... d=newposts now excludes Trev's posts. To include them, as per the old method, use http://www.5punk.co.uk/phpbb/searchold. ... d=newposts - the VPSLV link on the main page uses the new method.
2. I popped a link in the New Feed forum description pointing to http://www.5punk.co.uk/phpbb/viewforum. ... ark=topics - it's the same as the one inside the forum, but saves you going in there - it marks all News Feeds threads as read to you. It's a bit clumsy.

Yay, Trevor still has a hope of beating Berk to the top spot
Go go magical Trevor!

On a completely unrelated note, I think the Wii, PS3 buttons are still worth doing, and then working on the listing page I never had chance to work on back in the day.
The basic idea for those of you that haven't heard this, is to have one page where you can sort fellow 5punkers into a Wii, 360, PS3, Xfire, Shartak, Urban Dead listing and make the list point to relevant url's or display Wii codes etc...
If you want, now that I actually have some free time again, I don't mind finishing off what I started by at least sorting all the profile buttons out, and then maybe coming up with a way to do the above that perhaps Stoat/Fear could create with PHP magics?

As mentioned elsewhere by other members, thought I'd suggest the following buttons to be added to our profiles :
Shartak
Facebook
PS3
Wii
Steam ?
I'd also look into sorting the mini profile buttons in the threadview into 2 rows, one above the other.
That way you could have the "out the box" buttons that come with phpbb at the top, and the "5punky" buttons underneath.
This will help stop the sites width from becoming unusable on reduced sized windows or on the Wii browser etc...
What would possibly be a quick and easy thing to implement (if you are a code monkey that is) is a listings page for each of the customised buttons similar to the following http://www.5punk.co.uk/phpbb/udead.php & http://www.5punk.co.uk/phpbb/xfire.php.
Not sure how these would be linked on the site, but I feel it would be handy to not have to manually maintain or post in a thread every time somebody has a new wii friend code or facebook account etc...
Obviously when ti comes to Shartak profiles, it would be nice to have multiple character entries, but I imagine this would become very difficult to implement, so probably not worth it.
And the best bit of all...... I get to do the easy bit now and just suggest stuff without worrying about how to implement it
