Comparing to the Bristol Stool Scale is the way to go.

Hurrah, I've finally reached then end and completed it 3 different ways tonight.
One false ending - the money one, and both "true" endings. The final bit for the good true ending is a bit of a slog really, but the Gauss gun is fun. Also, discovered that I had the Gordon Freeman PDA easter egg, and another giving me the code to a door that I'd found earlier, but I didn't realise this until it was too late to go back to it.

You did do one of the two proper endings right, not just one of the wish granter endings?

It's understandable then. The proper endings are not that spectacular but they are less abrupt.

Sadly I lost all my save games when my HD went bye bye,

I'd just got into the sarcophagus as well, can't quite bring myself to play through again just yet :(

Smeg. Got the rich ending, where's this guide/doctor thing so I can get a proper one?

Quite disappointed with the lack of big kick-arse enemies, the fire spirit thing was about the most challenging/entertaining baddie and that was only half-way into the game.

To get to the proper ending you need to find a ladder, which if I remember is in an alcove type thing in the corridors just before you reach the wishmaker/reactor room. I read somewhere that you should be able to keep going left and you'd find it but that's not what I did so not sure about that. I just stumbled across it.

At the top of the ladder is another corridor with a door at one end that you can't open without the secret decoder ring. If you didn't get it use this cheat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0B1_nizEqg8

That works, or, you can meet the Guide in the Cordon after you leave the X16 lab in Yantar. He will send you to the hideout in Agroprom to meet the Doctor, who explains quite a bit, the tells you where to find said decoder thing.

Does anyone have a save game from just before entering/just inside the sarcophagus?

I really can't be arsed to play through all the way again, especially as I'd got so far before my HD went fail :(

Preferably having completed the 'Guide' mission stuff as I was heading to the secret door

I have now.

Finished it up last night. Quite a bit more game with the "correct" method, although still no uber-monster. I did like the final level though, bit of variation and some ideas which would have been nice in the rest of the game.

I'll put it up tonight if no-one else has got one, it's 1.03 save either standing just outside the door that needs the decoder (with the decoder) or in the next room and you'll need a weight cheat, if not a stamina one as I've got about 1.3 metric tonnes of stuff.

Took me about 3-4 hours to get there from a save I'd got from X18, so I can understand why some are reluctant to play it again, especially the levels immediately preceeding it.

It's here.

Found it in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\STALKER-SHOC\savedgames, but was actually C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents\STALKER-SHOC\savedgames when browsing.

Cheers sir, that was most handy.

/just ran through the last bit with god mode

<IMO>

While none of the endings were the super-mega-epic kill the boss, save the world, get a parade type affairs a lot of people were hoping for, I think all (8) of the endings were pretty good for the game.

That is to say, that any big ending would have ruined the feel of the game, given that you're just meant to be one guy doing whatever you want to do.

Yeah, that's a pretty good point really. At first it felt odd to not have some kind of Doctor Robotnik at the end of it all, but then as you say it's not quite that type of game since it's not just You vs The World. I liked the long bit of the "real" ending, although it was a little monotonous.

I dread to think how long the real ending is, I reckon it took me at least 45 minutes with god mode on, and it mostly took 2 hits with the gauss rifleto kill the bad guys.

Still, a good ending to the game, and nice to explore Chernobyl more

Yeah, playing with the Gauss rifle was one of the best bits of the ending I reckon. Can't remember how long it took though.
