Dell, after announcing that it would be selling computers at Wal-Mart stores around the country last month, says that it will start selling computers at Asian retail chains and stores next.

Paul-Henri Ferrand, who heads Dell's operations in the Asia-Pacific region, excluding Japan, China and South Korea, said the company was in talks with some retail chains and specialized stores across Asia but gave no names.

They're just "selected" Dell as the laptop manufacturer of choice for students, here. Someone must have had a nice lunch.

That shop next to <strike>CockSuckers</strike> CostCutters (Lazar Lizards or something) used to have a massively overpriced laptop "offer" when I was there. Taking advantage of the thickos with Daddy's credit card I think (50%+ of Warwick students easily). Any Dell is certainly a step up from that.

To be fair to dell, if you want something for tippy-tapping out your work, listening to a bit of music and plagiarising stuff, you cant really get cheaper. Plus their monitors are nice. But competition between different suppliers would be far better for students.

To me Dells are like a Toyota Yaris - I'd never buy one, but to someone who knows fuck all about cars and just wants something low maintenance that'll go they're ideal.

I like Dell for cheap stuff, they're never great machines out of the box, but with some fettling etc. you can get a decent machine for very little money.
