Sword of the New World: Grando Espada

I have come by this via a friend, if you pre-order and send the email order receipt to (PM me for email address) you will get a refund. This is someone who works for a company associated with Elephant Entertainment, the game producer.

Basically it's to drive up pre-orders.

Info from email I received:

PLEASE CAN YOU ORDER THIS GAME FOR ME, and I will refund you the money
Order your game only from the link below, keep the electronic receipt you will get and send to me, I shall then Re-imburse you the £20, simple as that, and the game is yours!
If you have any friends or relatives that want to do the same....I NEED the electronic Receipts though!

If it is genuinely freeee.. Then yes, I need a fun MMO to keep me occupied for a while.

Well I've ordered and got a reply from the chap who says that when I get the game to let him know and he'll send me a refund.

I have no reason to believe this is a scam as it came from a friend who deals with this company everyday in a professional capacity.

But no refund till I actually get it, still it looks good enough to distract me for a while!

I thought I heard something about this a while back - something about a normal and a premium edition, where you could only do some quests and progress past level 20 or so in the premium copy?

I suppose it depends how long that would take, most MMOs I just start again because I get tired of the logarithmic level scaling. I don't know why we put up with it really, particularly in something like BeeF, where simply having a few extra unlocks doesn't guarantee an increased score each round.

It probably started with the D&D levels, which were adopted (in principle at least) by most single-player RPGs - it was designed so higher levelled-characters could satifyingly earn larger amounts of experience for harder quests, less for too-easy ones and progress at a steady rate.

Now it's been perverted into this technique that makes obtaining each level increase a horrid grind in almost every game - it was never intended to make it take longer to get each subsequent level, or at least not to the degree that it does now.

I'll be honest, sounds dodgy but in the wrong sense.

Not a scam possibly, but in what capactity does the development company have to do with game.co.uk issuing refunds to my debit cards. Game have that information for the order, not the development company.

I'm wary about how the dev company will give me my money back when they do not have (and shouldn't) have my card details.

He's quite clear that neither the devs, nor game is involved. it seems as *HE* will reimburse you, not game or the devs.

Hence his needing the receipt, to prove you bought the game, I assume he'd pay everyone back through the medium of cheques or paypal.

At no point does he suggest that you'll be given a refund from game, or have anything to do with your card details.

Okay.

Even if he is affiliated with the game/development company/publisher, it still works out to be a free game in the end.

Obviously not, he will most likely get paid by the games company for every pre-order email he can produce.

He will get paid more then the £20 cost of the game hence asking loads of people to do it for him, it would be pointless if he only got £20.

He is affiliated by way of working for a company that provides a service to the games company (In his case it's a packaging company) they will have asked their suppliers/affiliates/staff etc. that they will pay money for every pre-ordered game receipt produced

As for the exact refund mechanism, it will not be through game, he personally said he would refund the money although at this stage I do not know exactly how.
