Freelancer Mods
Seems there's a shitload of mods for Freelancer, some of which look pretty good. Are we interested in these, seeing as I assume we'd all have to install them?
I've seen stuff ranging from remodelled ships (BSG Viper is lovely), added stations, factions and commodities, playable NPC ships, up to total conversions.
Couple that I like the sound of are a total conversion that lets you choose which faction you start working for (including NPC factions like Corsairs and the Order), a Star Wars conversion, and a Privateer conversion (the ships look so much nicer).
There's a big list <a href="http://www.lancersreactor.com/t/forum/t ... ing&M=True" target="_blank">here</a> if anyone fancies a look

I've made a server backup as of 16:30 today.
Then installed The evolutions mod 1.30 , you'll need This to start the game with the evolutions mod.
All your progress should be intact/safe

Okay, well first up we'll need the <a href="http://www.lancersreactor.com/t/downloa ... asp?id=927" target="_blank">Freelancer Mod Manager</a> to make turning stuff on and off easy. After that it's just a matter of picking the ones we like. Here's some that look good, in order of my preference:
<a href="http://www.lancersreactor.com/t/downloa ... asp?id=898" target="_blank">FLRebalance mod:</a>
Adds stations and planets, makes it harder to advance in levels. Seems to be a very common and well tested that's gone through several versions, adding lots of extra content.
<a href="http://www.lancersreactor.com/t/downloa ... asp?id=759" target="_blank">Starting mod:</a>
Allows the player to start as any faction, rather than just Liberty Police.
<a href="http://www.lancersreactor.com/t/downloa ... asp?id=889" target="_blank">Freelancer Evolutions mod:</a>
This mod adds more of pretty much everything in the game - ships, weapons, missions, commodities, systems, and probably more.
<a href="http://www.lancersreactor.com/t/downloa ... asp?id=967" target="_blank">Wasabe Missions:</a>
Extra missions, required on the server only. Battleship missions and harder missions added to Manhattan. Apparently very stable.
<a href="http://www.lancersreactor.com/t/downloa ... asp?id=957" target="_blank">Privateer Mod:</a>
A total conversion mod that changes the universe to Wing Commander/Privateer. The ships look a lot nicer and it adds a lot of extra stuff like rotating planets and different ship mods. Mentions a few bugs, but I don't know how game stopping they'd be.
<a href="http://www.lancersreactor.com/t/downloa ... asp?id=871" target="_blank">Proxima mod:</a>
Makes everything ten times more expensive and makes the NPCs tougher.
Personally I think we should avoid all the "OMG this ship is l33t!" stuff - you should still have to work for the good ships and weapons. Extra locations, better models, and stuff to buy can only be a good thing though. Right? I'd say go for the FLRebalance and see what can be added on top of it, as I'm not sure they're all compatible with each other.

I'm not sure I like it.
1. Everything's a shitload more expensive. Eveything was too cheap before, but ships are about 20 times more expensive now. Maybe not too bad, but combined with...
2. Now that the enemy can recharge shields and repair hull combat takes bloody ages. It's possible I was taking on too difficult a mission though.
3. I don't like the new ships - they seem to be either ugly as sin, uninspiring and badly modelled, or well done but out of character (Star Wars stuff).
I shall persevere later though.
