Grammar Nazi wank-off thread

Crikey, who'd have thought a Turkish spammer would have spawned so much discussion. Points I can remember to address:
Good call on the letter thing. I'm not infallible and it's nice to have something solidly confirmed.
I think I was taught how to write letters in secondary school, but I can only remember the basics (like how you start it dictates how you end it).
I agree with formal emails being written like formal letters. Mine always are as they carry more weight, especially when your English is correct. I find an argument always sounds (reads) so much more convincing when backed up with accurate language. I also agree with passive writing in a formal piece.
Apparently I had a penchant for creative writing from an early age - my mum recently found my diaries from Primary School that were full of nothing but outrageous lies. I distinctly remember being disgruntled at the invasion of privacy, so I suspect my tales were a result of that. Even as a youngster I was an opinionated little bastard.

That's just not fair. I can't see it.mrbobbins wrote:
This is the 2nd best thing I've ever seen on the internet.
After the singing shark cock one.
I like the thread though. I completely agree with being a grammar Nazi, and I aspire to be one, one day.
My grammar is rather shite though especially punctuation, and I notice I do over-use commas, somewhat, too much... Oh, and multiple full stops as a way of trailing off...
But if people use their there's incorrectly or spk in txt or h4xx0r, I am very happy to help Lat and beat them around the head with a barbed wire club.
(Regarding txt, this is not including an SMS text message of course. I still hate it personally and will avoid it myself where possible, but I do understand the limitations of 160 characters as a messaging medium)
Speaking of mediums, it is a happy medium in the end. The English language will evolve, it always has, otherwise we'd all be speaking in Ye Olde English with f's for s's. However the wholesale massacre of English by people should be inhibited as much as possible by "re-education" (see section on barbed wire club) and we should try to keep English alive as much as we possibly can.

We did form an excellent Nazi-double-act back in our old clan. On 5punk though I am always beaten to it by Lat and gang.
