Today's newest game video: Assassin's Creed trailer

The Ubidays event that Ubisoft has Ubigoing on right now has yielded a new trailer for Assassin's Creed that tickles our "over the top" meter. Slow-motion, flying doves, spraying blood, and old school ass-kicking ... in a hack and slash swordfighting game?

That's right. No hints here of the possible time-travel aspect that's been rumored to be in this game, but there's a lot of other stuff to look at. The musical score sort ain't bad either. I'd almost swear that Assassin's Creed: The Movie was due out this weekend.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Well I'm certainly looking forward to this. The trailer looks good, although I'm hoping that all the slow motion stuff is purely for dramatic effect in the trailer. The Wiki has a fair amount of info on, and says that it will be on PC as well as 360 and PS3. I only hope it isn't going to be Fista only.

Two aspects that I like are that you can blend into crowds - "social stealth" rather than just having to hide in shadows - and the control system sounds like it might be very good. Equally, it might be pants.
The Wiki wrote:The player will be able to grab onto and climb almost any aspect of the environment, which means exploration will be possible to a greater degree than in any previous game. Ubi boasts that any object that stands out more than two inches will be interactive.

The control scheme in Assassin's Creed will be significantly different from that of the typical game. Rather than explicitly specifying what actions Altaïr will take, the player presses buttons corresponding to his various body parts and the game attempts to figure out what action should be taken. For example, running toward a wall and pressing the 'legs' button will cause Altaïr to jump over a wall, while pressing the 'arms without weapons' button will cause him to vault it.

As a multi-platform release I'm not holding much expectation for it. The hype is making it look good, but I'm not sure the implementation will match up to it.

Well I'm going to remain optimistic. It may even be released before Spore!

Trev's right about the trailer being over the top - those jumping on the planks of wood bits might look cool, but would be a mare to execute if that was your play view. Also at the end, does he just belly flop into the courtyard?

I'm usually very wary about multi platform releases too, but Oblivion reassured me somewhat. The crucial difference being that the controls were made for PC then adapted for consoles (possibly - they seemed to be). If it's the same with this, then all's well and good.

I imagine this to be another Prince of Persia game under a different title. Obviously the camera angles in the video will not be representative of the final product, that would be silly. Looks interesting, but wouldn't bother on the PC though, 360 purchase if anything.

Great music as well.

If I had a console then I'd probably get it for that instead, but I bought a PS2 controller adaptor to let me play these kinds of games easily on my PC, so I'm not too bothered.

This is the only game of it's kind that has ever interested me.
This was after watching a video from some huge game event last year.

It really does look amazing, and I can probably dig up the video if I looked hard enough

I really hope this works well on the PC. I love the whole Hashshashin mythos and making a Thief-like game with it is wet-dream stuff for me :)

Yes indeed. Another great track from that album featuring the ever cheerful Thom Yorke: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3ClCwcCvdQ
