Freelancer

Post by Chickenz »

Right, I've recently dusted off my copy of this and give it a quick bash. Freelancer was one of the first PC games I ever bought and I spent many a day flying round doing general piratey/saving the universe type things.

I've spoke to Berk and he is willing to run a server on Bukkake if we get enough interest. Now I know that people will mention the Space Game at the bottom of 5punk, but I believe the following points might aid the Freelancer cause:

It's FREE. No fucking Subscription!!!!
Sweepable
Easy as fuck to play
Nice graphics for an ancient game. 3 or 4 years old!!!
Computer controlled AI
Lot's of missions to be played via Coop
A large choice of expansive full Mod packs to further improve the standard game.

I've played it locally on a server before with 3 people before and teaming up to attack pirates is great fun!!

So what do thee vote? Yays or Nays?

Was Freelancer the one with Brian Blessed in it?

Also, with respect to Eve, it's absolutely nothing like it. More like X-Wing/TIE Fighter/X-wing Vs TIE Fighter/etc...

I see it as a nice half-way point. While you can fly your ship manually, you do it with the mouse and there is some degree of click-to-go-there, particularly when making jumps. I tried Wing Commander again not long after playing quite a lot of Freelancer and the controls did my head in.

I'd give it a go. Played it to death when it was new, but it's been a while and I've lost my copy of it.

Well I think my copy is several hundred miles away, so I'm going to abstain as I'd like to but can't.

Berk and me just gave it a quick blast to test the server. Epic Win!!

We started off floating about remembering buttons before deciding to pirate some ships :) Got attacked by the space coppers, killed them and then got jumped by a couple of rats. 15 minutes of fun :) :)

I bought this game about when it came out, and I loved it. I'd be all over playing it again.

I beat the single player about 3 times I think. :boogie:

Uber Edit:

AHAA! It works!

Installed via my cd burner, had an iffy moment, currently alt-tabbed out from ze game.

Granted, it's a modified copy (due to it's sweeped origin), but as I've got the orig exe, I can patch and then modify again later.

I have an as-yet untested ISO, which I'll try out tomorrow night and link in this post all stealthy-like.

Edit: it seems to work

I'd be interested too, once exams et cetera are over.

How many players does the server support?

Sounds good. Does your progress get saved on the server for ever and ever, or is a cleaner whipping out the power lead going to reset us?

I'll go find a copy. :-)
