We regret to inform you of your ship loss

Post by centerededgedesign »

I, Dres Kaneerdan, have dire news for the 5punk community. I have lost the Dominix Battleship class ship that you worked together to build me.

2007.04.29 11:49

Victim: Dres Kaneerdan
Alliance: Betrayal Under Mayhem
Corp: 5punkorp
Destroyed: Dominix
System: Agrallarier
Security: 0.9

Involved parties:

Name: Mercenary Overlord / Unknown (laid the final blow)

Destroyed items:

Medium Armor Maintenance Bot I (Drone Bay)
Cap Recharger II
Cap Recharger II
Warden I (Drone Bay)
425mm 'Scout' I Accelerator Cannon
Wasp I (Drone Bay)
Wasp I (Drone Bay)
Wasp I (Drone Bay)
Wasp I (Drone Bay)
Iron Charge L, Qty: 85 (Cargo)
Warden I (Drone Bay)
Drone Link Augmentor I
Armor Kinetic Hardener II
Antimatter Charge L

I was able to salvage the rest of my T2 tank, a couple cap rechargers, and guns, I even salvaged the ship itself and completed the mission in time for the time bonus. (Insurance ftw, along w/ a good supply of ships/fittings/drones next door).

I'd like to thank you all again for the gift that was 'Drones FTW' until today.

On a different note though, I had never taken this Dominix outside of Empire, and had also kept it safely locked in a hangar during war. Twas a level 4 Damsel in Distress mission that did it in. I mistakenly shot the 'boss' of the room while taking out the frigs that were warp scrambling me. The reinforcements showed up and managed to kill me before I could kill all the scramblers. One mistake is all it takes. But with the money to replace it, I was able to do so quickly, and now have a ship that I'm not as worried about losing that can be dedicated to the fight if needed. (I've a couple other ships in reserve, a Myrmidon, and a bpc for a Hyperion) along with the cash to toss tacklers together if needed in a pinch.

I deeply regret the loss of this ship, as I think you all know. And thank you again for building me a ship that served me so well for so long.

(I'm not leaving or anything, just thought you'd all want to know about the ship)

Oh, one last note, but you may have actually saved my sanity by giving me that ship when you did, your timing was exponentially 5punky on that day. Tis a testament to the character of our group, and I commend you all.

Good lord, I had no idea she had lasted so long. She was due a new clutch peddle anyway so probably for the best. RIP 5punky Drone Ship, long live the next Box of Mini-Frogs*

:above: what they said :)

I have so far spectactularly failed to lose the BS that you lot made me after the great war fizzled and died. I did, however, manage to get it into structure no less than 3 times on my first solo-Lvl4 mish. 5xmed hull rep ft-pikey-w :ahoy:

Heh, and I came within 15% of quitting Eve in shame doing my first level 4 in a Cerberus...only a day after you'd presented it to me.

Never shouted 'Warp you f#*@ing mother@%&*^£$"' so loudly at the screen before!

It was the same mission that had just blown up my T2 fitted raven: 4 scramming frigs and a downright pounding from the rest. Raven melted in about 30 seconds, the cerb only survived because I had precision HAMs fitted that could see of the frigs and warp out...just.

Same mission last week, I lost a T2 fitted Myrmidon....
Went back in with a Helios to get my T2 stuff back - lost that...
Went back in with a Domi to try to recover T2 stuff from Myrm and also cloaking device - lost that...
I've spent roughly one hour playing since.

I'm scared of Eve now.

sorry to here dres but i doubt it will be the last time. i lost 2 ravens and an abaddon in 1 weekend, 2 in 1 hour running lvl 4 missions. that was a bad time but more of it was out of frustration from the 1st loss and doing more stupid things.

damsel easy mode

1) warp in at 70km and start orbiting the structure
2) leave the officer cruiser for last
3) always kill cruisers then BS then frigs (the new patch has made frigs triggers on some missions so control your drones)

follow that you should be good, as long as you can tank the incoming dps till you can lower it, if need be kill everything but the officer guy, and fill the cap and armor back up since you know once he gets hit all hell is gonna break loose. overall i like the mission, some descent loot at times but the structure HP is just depressing.

That's a shame, I'm equally sentimental about ships with a history, I'd kept the Rifter someone gave me from one of their agent rewards in my hangar for ages, never flew it, just looked at it from time to time. Then last month I accidentally sold it.

Y'know I was going to tell you that I heard of a guy who bookmarked his wreck then told the agent to fail the mission before going back to get his stuff in a hauler, only I think it'd upset you.

oops

Btw, the corp bs programme is still extant: if you need a bs or equivalent to get back on your feet and can't afford to get one then we'll build you one from our mineral stocks. We'll do the same with PvP ships once we've got somewhere to mine the high ends, but it'd empty our wallet overnight if we did it right now.

You know I heard exactly the same thing about 30 secs after the Domi went pop - oh well live and learn (supposedly).

Not too worried about a new ship right at the moment - off on holiday at the end of the week and have a shitload of coursework to do before then so no time for Eve apart from the odd skill stop. I will re-assess my situation when I get the chance but I should be OK for a new ship and I already have a lovely corp built PvP Megathron (tvm).

If you didn't see the KB, I lost the Domi that Friz worked so hard to get to me over the weekend too.. Along with most of my non-liquid-non-BP assets.. Yes I was travel fitted and it didn't matter when eight short ranged gankers set upon me..

It was 15mins before downtime, who'd take the time to setup a gatecamp then?

Meh.

Losing ships sucks, getting back up and shaking the dirt off is what makes us better people for it though.

Thanks for the try guys. I really do appreciate it. Don't worry about Miro for the immediate future though. I think i'm gonna shelve him until he comes out super-capital spec'd. (which he nearly is already, gogo Capital Repair lvl4!)

Sorry about the loss, but I feel I have to say it to prevent this happening again:

Check the map
Use a scout
Don't travel through known pirate gank systems
Avoid low sec

The Amamake-Egghel pipe is a notorious gank spot - one look at the recent kills on the map would show a yellow blob at any time. Going through there at any time is dodgy, at a weekend without a scout is simply suicide. I'm sorry you had to learn the hard way. Live and learn :unimpressed:

And the strange thing is: I've had Miro based out of there for over two months (For capital skills + Gallente specific skills) and i've never once seen a hostile camp of any sort. I guess I was lucky until the other night.

Live and learn is correct Friz.

Ya, i wept a little inside when it happened.

Somthing I was gonna edit my post for but i'll just add here:

I take those precautions in 0.0, or just fly ships that can deal with it (cloak/fast etc) but I just don't even think about it in Empire.

0.4

Amamake is the usual hang out for those gank gangs. Eghel is certainly more rare. narf I prefer 0.0 so much more. Low sec sucks hard: by it's very nature you only ever get griefers there and I always get lulled into a false sense of security thinking I'm safer, when in all likelihood it's much more dangerous than 0.0, where at least the enemy is a known quantity :)
