Sony's PSP price cut coming to Europe on May 4th

C'mon, you did think that Sony whippersnapper that confirmed the US PSP price cut was holding back about Europe, didn't you? As these things tend to fall, Europe is getting similar treatment as the US (albeit in a slightly later fashion), as the price of the PlayStation Portable will soon be descending to £130 / €170 (between $231 and $260) across the lake. Additionally, several Platinum titles will be taking a nosedive right along with it, as Ridge Racer 2, Tekken, Killzone, LocoRoco, and Moto GP all sink to £14.99 ($30). Hold your horses before skipping out of work and ripping our your credit card, though, as the price drops aren't slated to take effect until May 4th -- but we'd still recommend keeping a close eye out, as we know all too well how those street dates can fall through hold up.

Wanna trade? I'm bored of my DS lite already.spoodie wrote:I'm pretty much bored of mine also. It's great for PS1 games if you can find one you want to play and also the old console emulation but that can only go so far. There are few proper PSP games I've liked.
I'd trade mine in for a DS Lite any day.

I wouldn't swap my DS for it either, even though I hardly ever pick it up. It's a shame the PSP has a few interesting games, but no real signature ones - I guess that's a product of it's design as a mobile Playstation, rather than a unique gaming device.spoodie wrote: I may have been too hasty, I can't give up any console that easily when I have money in the bank.
It does have it's other uses.
I'm very happy with my DS and have recently been playing with it shitloads. Lots of good games out recently, plus many more to come over the next few months. Not to mention Wii-fi support is forthcoming. DS all the way.Dog Pants wrote:DS or PSP then? I've got birthday money burning a hole in my pocket and a Wii doesn't look to be forthcoming (yes, I saw Berk's Game post but I'm not paying over the odds).
Despite my earlier post claiming my willingness to swap my ds, I would probably still recommend a DS over a PSP. I just want something new, and am easily bored. (Without money to actually buy anything new). Yeah. Go Ds. They have 2 screens, TWO.Dog Pants wrote:DS or PSP then? Depends how long you've got to play it, the DS is great for a few seconds of fun at any time, whereas the PSP favours games that you play over a longer time. Of course there are examples of both on each, but that's how the ones I've played seem.
Both can do some measure of emulation and homebrew/apps, although I've never looked much into it, the PSP has a UMD movie playing as standard while the DS has a hee-uge back-catalogue of compatible games.
The PSP has the better graphics capability, widescreen and a rather underused tilt function, where the DS has unique input methods like the stylus, mic and even the fact that it folds.
Best to let the games decide, pick a few on each you like the sound of and compare where, when, with who and for how long you think you would play them.
Gamespot list their opinions of the best games for each system here: PSP / DS - which might help, although that's slightly skewed if you do/don't own a normal console which has superior versions of a lot of the titles.

I'd be using my handheld to alleviate boring situations, like waiting outside changing rooms in clothes shops (apart from lingerie shops - they're fun) and weddings. So the short game is probably best for me, making the DS sound the better option. I don't have any other consoles (well, I do have a PS1 but it's several hundred miles away), but I do have a GBA. I've got Advance Wars 2, Pokemon ermmm something green, and a couple of pinball games for it and they pretty much suit me fine. Is there an Advance Wars DS, and will my GBA games work on a DS?

Personally I've found the opposite to be true, but it's probably more down the to games I've played. Not much on the PSP has really engaged me and yet games like Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time and Another Code on the DS have had me hooked.FatherJack wrote:Depends how long you've got to play it, the DS is great for a few seconds of fun at any time, whereas the PSP favours games that you play over a longer time.
