Well, my old mousemat (an xtrac hammer) had pretty much worn out entirely and I don't really wanna buy a new one.
So I decided to try something a little bit different.
Namely, a Flexible cutting board, They're fucking huge, cheap as hell (6 for under a tenner) and seem really rather good as mousemats. They're really nice cutting boards too, quite fast, somewhere between wood and standard plastic.
Taking a picture of my work-in-progress:
Rather higlighted the need for a new keyboard, monitor and mouse-mat. Have bought the monitor so far, probably go for a Saitek Eclipse red illumated keyboard, a Logitech MX518 mouse, but as for mousemat...bit short of ideas.
Was kind of hoping for inspiration in the PC shops, but none has come.
As far as keyboards go I prefer basic, good quality rather than fancy features. I've had keyboards with media keys and never used them, not tried a gaming keyboard yet though.
Not exactly an expert (and I am sure there are a legion of other options) but my fUnc 1030 has served me very well for many years. Smooth on one side, textured (a la Berks chopping board) on the other. Rubber base, so it grips your desk, cable holder to avoid any snags. Cracking bit of kit.
I use a monstrous Razer pad, was 20 quid on ebay a year ago. Funny surface that apparently helps the Laser refract back to it's sensor or some bobbins like that.
