EVE randomly reboots my machine

Post by Renegade222 »

Okay. I am relatively annoyed. I decide to play EVE Online... download it overnight... wake up... some crazy error. Get a new download. Same crazy error. I figure out how to bypass it. New error during installation. I donwload a new copy. Original error pops up. I bypass it again. The game installs fine. I open the EVE.exe... log in... make a character... go through the tutorial... up to space tut. I undock

...
My PC reboots, with a "System has recovered from a serious error"

I try again. This time I load and get into space... I get up to the part where it is explaining about the control panel

My PC reboots...

PC Specs, just if you need 'em:

Intel E6400 2.1GHz Dual Core
nVIDIA GeForce 7900GT
2GB RAM (I forget the specs)
320GB Seagate HDD
550W PSU

PLS HALP.. this game is infuriating me.

Presumably this is the only game that does it? Eve is pretty easy going on system specs so should run on that setup fine. What's the 'crazy error' on download/installation you're getting and bypassing? Have you reported this to CCP? They may have an idea.

Meanwhile, try all the usual crap: upgrade soundcard and graphics drivers, check DX9 installation, run MTest or similar to make sure your RAM is functioning properly etc.

One thing that often sorts Eve issues out is clearing the cache: go into the Eve folder and delete the folder named 'cache' then restart the game.

Edit: and welcome to 5punk btw!

The install error at first was something about corrupt. I bypassed it by using the command /NRCR when running the .exe from cmd. The second one during the actual installation was due to an actual corrupt file. The third download didn't have the corrupt file. And I think it me have been a heat problem, because it was fairly hot in my room and the third time I restarted my computer was in an eternal loop of booting right up to JUST before the XP load screen and it would flash up a BSoD that I didn't have enough time to read. I'm going to try now as it is not as hot and I have a fan. And my PC is out of the loop.

Yeah I did, but it was fairly simple reason. There was no airflow to the graphics card which was combined with the PC sitting next to a hot radiator (yes, yes I know) at the time which obviously resulted in the graphics card overheating - so it wasn't Eve specifically.

It was just the only game I was playing at the time (and consequently the only thing that was even slightly stressing/heating the graphics card) which is why it was "Eve" bombing out.

Definitely check other 3D games and see if the problem is local.
