Possibly the best game ever, think gran turismo, meets project gotham, but with even more realism.

Is it therefore better than the demo which came with Jade Empire? I thought that was a bit cack.

I hope so, as it was one I've been looking forward to especially as something to use live for (I had live for over a year now, and used it once for about an hour). I've enjoyed all the Gran Turismo games (although not many of it's competitors) and thought the chance to show off customised cars on the net was a great idea.

I think what put me off from the demo were a few things:
- The menu was very sluggish, particularly the car select screen
- The cars offered were all quite fast, so no chance to learn the 'feel' of the game in a slow car, and none of them seemed to have much grip - felt like an ice-rink at times
- Laguna Seca is probably my least favourite circuit from Gran Turismo - I think it was in the license test in GT2 - a circuit with barriers on the edge of the track might have been a better choice for the demo.

I am inexperienced having the rear triggers as throttle/brake and found it rather uncomfortable after 5 mins. Also throttles should be just ON or OFF, like the way I drive a real car ;)

As with everything I'm sure it's all about practice - and after a while I was able to at least get around the circuit, but it still felt (probably more realistically) as it I was having to be a bit too cautious or it was curtains - as the cars seemed to have a propensity to crash directly facing the barriers.

Fortunately someone I know has already bought it, so I can find out for myself.

that seems pretty ok, nothing amazing, but workable

not a problem, you start with crap and build up on a reasonable learning curve.

fucking hate that track.

Just be happy to know that in GT4 they've adjusted it slightly - it's now the Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway. A new name does not a better racetrack make.

well I bought it anyway.

The menu is still rather slow - the time it takes for the images of the car to come up and be able to select colours.

I was a little disappointed with the graphical quality - the cars seem a bit blocky and less detailed than GT4.

The customising bit is fun though - especially the painting - would have been even better if there was some way to add your own decals, though, as to be honest I am *never* going to win any online races, but at least people might remember the car if it's odd enough.

Might disconnect live next time I play - I'm sick of seeing that I got the 47362nd fastest time.

Drivertar is interesting - mine can't stay on a simple circuit yet (I was all over the place in the 5th training race) but it's a good idea, rather than GT's B-spec where he just gets better by himself, you actually have an input - even if (as in my case) it's often a negative one.

Only done about three races - the first two were really easy, the third: imposssible - other cars just leave you at the start line. Might have to mess with the difficulty settings.

Overall, good - different enough from GT4 (which I am now totally bored of) to mean it will get a good few hours put into it.
