Weird error messages on boot? [Read Me]

Post by Dr. kitteny berk »

A few of you will have been noticing weird new error messages on windows booting, sound not working, antivirus crapping out.

This is caused by the recent windows patch to fix the critical animated icons hole.

to fix it you'll need This

I heard about this at work, much panic about a security hole on our Windows servers.

Tis very odd, but now won't let me run 3DMark, and provides the same error message. Tried that hotfix and everything. :?

Potential (if possibly iffy) Fix.

Open Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > check the "show updates" box.

Find the 925902 and 928843 updates and press the happy "remove" button.

That should remove the 2 updates that cause the problem (though removing only one might help)

However, this obviously leaves you open to the bugs the fixes fixed, and may or may not fix the fuckups caused. YMMV.

Fortunately I take the server method on all updates - even if it's critical I wait a week to see if there's any nasties :)

Is the issue likely to be resolved by a future update? My PC decided to reinstall the updates last night having removed them last week.
