It might be all big and clever now Microsoft are doing it, but this cross-platform multiplayer isn't new.

Final Fantasy XI Online had it, with PS2, PC (and presumably now 360) users all in the same world. Granted, it's not an FPS and easier to play with a joypad, but it had some clever innovations.

Not only were all platforms in the same worlds, but all countries were too - so optionally, text could be entered by a quite surprisingly useful and easy-to-use method of selecting "key" words from a list - which would then be displayed to all recipients in their own language.

These days, though voice comms seems to be the norm with online console games, and my brief forays into them have been pretty traumatic. Imagine Mouse x infinity, and you're on the right track, with a few Robot Mouses thrown into the mix.

The mute was aimed at you, the alternative room creation at more squeaky people who occasionally annoy the piss out of everyone on TS. However, we love you really chicken, in the most bumsexual way imaginable.
