Ventrilo and the soon to be Alliance

Post by Fear »

Now we are moving into an alliance joint voip will be a requirement.

With that in mind how does that change our vent server? Do we no longer need it, or do we need it but an 80 player one instead?

Also regarding an alliance website (if one is to be made) it would make sense to roll it into a package so 10% of the vent money goes towards hosting a website/forums/killboard/whatever. Something I can do/help with for sure.

The 12th of the month is roughly when we have to decide.

Hobo's already have a TS server. If we wanted to offer Vent up as the alliance VOIP then I guess we could, although it's up to you guys if you want to keep our own 5punky one? I don't reckon we'll see more than 20 on at once to begin with anyway, so no need to upgrade (btw, still waiting on details so I can send a donation in)

The alliance forum is the Hobo Forum and they have Killboard too though that's corp only at the moment.

Well I was about to begin this and then I thought about the whole alliance thing.

I can't get the Hobo's website to load, I just get a white screen.
We can do our own killboard like the 5punky one if they like. Griefwatch is black and hurts my eyes.

If we wanted to go all out we could get a domain www.[alliancetag]-eve.com and run a website and killboard from that. Pretend to be one of the big boys. :P

Maybe something to raise at the next meeting? I'd happily do it but I don't wish to be out of pocket for either website or vent - the other corps can chip in a bit.

I'm still not sure what you wish me to do with our vent. Another month at £6 isn't gonna break the bank I suppose.

Other 5punker's opinions on the whole voice comms thing?

Keep our vent going for the moment. I'll pay for it myself if it becomes an issue, but it's nice to have for other things not just Eve (and I can't stand TS :P ). I don't think we should go down the line of anything serious for the alliance yet if at all - remains to be seen if the whole thing will work yet.

and I vote "Theiving Gypsy Bastards" for our alliance name.

I checked on the Romany language channel in EVE and they said np, before conning me out of my stuff*

ooh, perhaps Theiving Gypsy B3tards....

*may not be true

www.Crystaltech.com

this is who I work for, and a supervisor on 3rd shift. I already have access to any type of site we would need for free. Coldfusion, asp, asp.net 1.1 or 2.0 yada yada yada. We are looking to start doing voip as well (as to when I do not know.) Please keep in mind that this would all be free. Accpet the domain registration. I think I can cover the 2.99 registration fees :D
