Has a mouse died?

Is it me, or is 5punk.co.uk really slow of late.

It is taking me over 30 seconds to load a page. The discussion board has timed out twice on me today.

I suspect someone forgot to feed the mice again?

It is kind of slow.. although 30 seconds I reckon is an extreme case...
Maybe you're spoilt Fear by my uber website hosting skillz? :P

It's because I personally recommend rats for powering websites, they have bigger muscles.

Dreamhost are having massive problems across the board with anything using lots of SQL, they won't admit it, but they are!

Standard response is asking you (i.e. me) to reduce the amount of activity on the site! Yeah right, I want less people to browse the forums, and remove all the customisations on 5punk that have made this place a great place to be.

They are beginning to nark me off a bit, but I haven't the time to do anything about it at the moment, and moving to another web hosting company is like pulling teeth and will inevitably cause tonnes fo work for Stoat which isn't fair.

Dreamhost are good, but they are getting too big for themselves and the servers don't seem to be able to cope with the extra workload that keeeps getting chukced at them the more people who sign up.

Plus they don't seem to understand that the needs of customers nowadays include heavy SQL/PHP usage as everything is database driven and uses PHP a lot on most sites.

Wey, meet Cheese.

The best website host I know of.

His company: www.runpcrun.com

I've abused many of his linux servers in the past, for some reason he seems to trust me with them. :faint:

It isn't possible to have a website load faster than on one of his servers in my experience.

-edit-

^That sounds like blatent whoring of a friends business, but it is sincere.

If you are looking for a windows hosting company try www.HostingUK.Net. Again I couldn't recommend them enough. My company deals with them often and we have many of our customer's sites with them

With hosting these days it is very much a case of you get what you pay for.

I think you're well off here.

Dreamhost seem to understand perfectly that 95% of their customers need enough php/sql to hold a blog or personal site and maybe a crappy little forum.

Unfortunately, 5punk is getting big and fat now, so they seem to be struggling rather more than before.

Thank you Fear.

Yeah, we are good. But it's a simple equation. Basically because the servers are good spec, looked after, not overloaded and connected to decent bandwidth in the UK. If it's a heavy site, we'd recommend it's own PC.

But I'm not sure I want to mix my "fun" and "serious" parts of my life again like I did with tLS. You saw it, I find it difficult to be objective!
