Bring out your dead...

If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

If one was selling a duvet on ebay, what would one put it on to photograph it?

Your right about that card being better, but the big question is how good is your PSU?

amblin wrote:The memory and clock speeds on that 7800 are much lower (almost half!), plus it has half the memory. Half the pixel pipes too unless I'm confused and shaders aren't pipes. So half the card - half the price.
Well, not really :?

Clock = 500 against 375 (75%)
Mem = 512 against 256 (50%)
Mem speed = 1400 against 1200 (85%)
pipes (whatever they are) = 20 against 16 (80%)
Price Ex VAT= 175 against 60 (35%)

So that would be 75% of the card for 35% of the price, unless I miss my guess. I guess the memory loss is probably the biggest failing, also the brand may be some sort of GFX card-board or something

Of course, vfm is a bit of a misnomer when buying stuff to better play computer games with I suppose ;) . Still for an AGP (I have AGP still aswell) that Overclockers bargain bin may have something worthwhile

Fair enough :)

I hadn't realised that there was such a spec difference between the 2 cards you had posted originally actually...

I have a 2.6G and 3G 478 P4s, but both sadly in machines I'm still using. Saw a 3G for £60 on ebuyer, 3.2Gs from around £130, but the 3.4Gs go for over £200.

I will probably be selling my virtually brand new 7800 GS when I upgrade to a new PC in the next couple of weeks.

Not sure how much they're worth second hand now that the x1950's are about.

those magnets are powerful motherfuckers. I read once that if you get a couple of those types of magnets that are big enough (say a few cubic cm big) and let them snap together they can crush your hand and take off fingers.

They can certainly cause a nasty blood blister, I know that. We used to occasionally destroy our - security or just vandalism, I know not why. It has left quite a lot of them around though, especially in our little box of screws and bits.
