Portal a four-hour tour

ImagePortal level designer, Kim Swift, told Eurogamer that her game will last only about four hours in its final version. The demo we saw at GDC looks fun, but only four hours?

Portal will be bundled with at least Half-Life 2: Episode 2 and Team Fortress 2 (in the $40 Black version), which takes some of the sting. But ... four hours?

We're all for short, sweet games. But our idea of a short game is about eight hours unless we're playing monthly episodes. When we hit the four-hour mark in a game, we're just getting started.

I was under the impression that it was more of a tech demo than a full blown game.

As it sort of comes free with Ep2 I'm not really bothered about it only being 4 hours

Surely it depends how much of a puzzle spaz you are, it still looks complicated to me.

I guarantee the first room will take me four hours. And if there's any bits where you can make things pop out and back in again like the gun in the demo - well, that's another four hours.

For something that's basically half tech demo, half just a bit of fun, four hours is fine. I mean hell, EP2 itself is only going to be six or seven hours. And as Father Jack said, I'll probably end up spazzing around in the first room for a good while before I even start to complete the puzzles.

yeah the way I look at it, I'll be shelling out $20 for Episode 2, $10 for TF2, and $10 for Portal which is a pretty good deal if you ask me.

I hear it's a bit hand-holding in the first couple of levels- You only get to place one portal.

However, the possibility of community-made maps (probably damn hard ones too) is quite exciting.

Is there any scope for multiplayer in Portal? If so then I envisage it going the way of 'slinger and Tasers in SWAT - setting up little loops to trap your mates for infinitely.

I believe they said they'd see how the Single Player was received and then make a decision.
I's say it was likely that they'd already got some ideas down at least.
