Post by Duke of Ted »

I'm bidding on a Dreamcast and was wondering if you dudes could recommend me some games. The console i'm bidding on has 8 games with it, nothing that special:
Crazy Taxi
Resi - Code Veronica
Giant Killers
Rainbow Six
NBA 2K
GTA 2
Ready to Rumble Boxing
Planet Ring

i was planning on getting House of the Dead 2 with the gun and Ill Bleed of course

Soul Calibur and Shenmue were favourites.

Best console evar.

Phantasy Star Online (2 also contains 1, IIRC) will work in SP, but the DC only has a modem, not ethernet - so I'd imagine support for it is long dead.

Even though already mentioned, Shenmue (and Shenmue II), plus:
Skies of Arcadia
Sonic Adventure 1 & 2
MDK 2
PowerStone 1 & 2
Grandia II

Also, I've never played them, but am tempted to grab a console again for:
Record of Lodoss War
Elemental Gimmick Gear

With the possible exception of MDK2, these games still stand up now - infact I'm currently playing (albeit GameCube versions of) Skies of Arcadia and Sonic Adventure 2

Just so your aware, while I loved my dreamcast (I ended up owning two) they have a habbit of breaking for no real reason. First one lasted about 18 months, second 6.

As for game recomendations:
Sonic adventure/2
Skies of Arcadia
Power Stone/2
Trickstyle
Sega Rally 3

Watch episode 2.late of consolevania - it's wholly dedicated to the DC and some of the best games made ITHO are reviewed.

Off the top of my head though

Powerstone
Shenmue
others mentioned thus far

hehe yeah i watched it, its the main reason i'm getting one. Did you think i was serious about illbleed? :P

thanks for the advice guys, i'll definitely be getting Power Stone, Shenmue and maybe Sega Rally. Not too sure about sonic adventure, not a big fan of platformers.

how about 2D fighters? Street Fighter 3 was mentioned on consolevania but i'd need to get myself an arcade stick :)

Don't forget to pick up all the massive amount of emulators/rom discs available for the dreamcast, just simply use a swap disc, then load the emulators and you are away.

Easiest way to play old school titles with a control pad on your telly.

P.S. Virtua Tennis fucking owned on the dreamcast

I still have some old DC games, including a copy of Shenmue.

Online games definitely wont work anymore, Sega's network is long gone.

Capcom vs SNK and Marvel vs Capcom II are two I've heard good things about, personally I've never found anything that quite matched Streetfighter II and had given up looking at that stage. Always found it easier with a gamepad myself, especially the Dragon Punch.

yeah marvel vs capcom is freaking sweet! I've always found it easier using a pad as well, a megadrive one though
