ArmA is FUN
Get it. I think it's awesome and simply demands mass 5punky action. I know some people might be put off by the stuff that isn't exactly like BEEF, but that's cos it ain't frickin BEEF. It has toys, I can create missions to suit us (I did alot of mission writing for Op Flashpoint and the scripting is basically the same), and it's a little slower and less run/die/respawn/repeat than those other games, which I like, cos I'm crap at them but quite good at this.
Jimmy and I were dicking about in Sopwith Camels last night, until we got bored of that, nicked a couple of harriers, flew up a valley, bombed their tanks to smithereens, ejected into the sea, called in a blackhawk to rescue us, and then raided the town in tanks, planting satchel bombs under all the bridges. Was a right giggle.

I do like the sound of this - I liked OFP but it was a bit confused when we played it muliplayer. I've heard it's pretty buggy though, and I'm worried that it's going to be the betamax to Joint Ops's VHS.
On the other hand, it sounds like you could design us some very silly missions with the variety of stuff available - multi-vehicle relay races and barnstorming in Sopwith Camels are two that immediately spring to mind.

Joint Ops is old, ArmA is new - though admittedly not as shiny as some of the really new stuff. But BIS listens to their players and actively support their product. They've already released 2 patches (first one is bundled with the Euro release) tweaking some things that annoyed the players. The game is supremely moddable, and there are already some nice looking new toys in the works...OFP had pretty much every mod you could wish for in the end (Star Wars, Lego, Transformers, Stargate and Command & Conquer to name some of the more obscure ones). So while games like Joint Ops might keep be amused for a few days, OFP and now ArmA have kept me coming back for years.

Op Flashpoint annoyed me a bit when it first came out, and I never quite managed to join in very successfully when we replayed it (unless you count providing the media).
I'm like loads more maturerer now, so perhaps I can be a bit more patient, and not expect to run around spraying bullets and kill all of the baddies almost by mistake.
The ability to write your own stuff sounds interesting, although I'm sure you're prepared, and won't feel aggrieved when on playing the mod you've spent hours lovingly crafting, 5punkers just all attempt to occupy the same tree/bathtub/inside of a cow.
It's a new game, though and they are a scarce breed at this time of year - I'll probably grab it next time I'm in a game shop or supermarket. (That will be tomorrow, then)

That's what I love about this place. I reckon the ability to make decent custom maps could lend very well to our way of playing games.FatherJack wrote:won't feel aggrieved when on playing the mod you've spent hours lovingly crafting, 5punkers just all attempt to occupy the same tree/bathtub/inside of a cow

Funny that, since it's the sequal to Op FlashpointMIkkyo wrote:the fact it appears to have a proper single player interests me, it also reminds me of OP Flash point. I used to love making senarioes for that.
I've already one semi-serious misison which involved flying down a valley velly velly quick in a harrier but inevitably ended up in dogfighting said jumpjet vs Sopwith Camel. It's actually a piece of piss to throw together a basic mission (there's even a handy mission wizard), but I've been exploring the advanced scripting stuff and it seems to be the same language as flashpoint so I'll probably port some of my old missions over sometime. Oh yeah, this is got traaa'ors too
In the spirit of Wikiness, behold my ArmA addons database. Kinda work in progress, but that's the whole point of a Wiki, sherly?
