OK, living in sunny Brussels my choice of retailers is a bit different from you brit residents. I have a very friendly local computer shop that seems to be competative for componentry and I want to buy a PC from them. They offer the following 2 set-ups for gaming, but are more than willing to change bits to requirement. Both are priced at 999 Euros. Descripts are a bit French, but I think you'll get the gist
Opt1; AMD
AMD Athlon 5200+X2 DualCore 64bits
Memoire DDR2 2048Mb 533mhz <- memory
Disque dur 320Gb SATAII 8Mb de cache <- HDD

Graveur DVD 16X +/- Double couche <- Optical drive
Carte mere MSI K9N <- Mother board
Carte son 7.1 <- Sound card
Carte reseau 10/100 mbps <- network card
6 X USB 2.0 dont 2 en facade
Boitier Nagan avec fan 12cm <- coolery thing, I think
Lecteur de cartes memoires <- memory card reader
Clavier multimedia noir <- KB
Souris optique noire <- Mouse
Speakers 2.1 Logitech S200
Opt 2; INTEL
INTEL Core2Duo E6400 (2.13Ghz) Dualcore 64Bit 4Mb de cache
Memoire DDR2 2048Mb 800mhz
Disque dur 320Gb SATAII 16Mb de cache

questions;
vfm?
which is better?
Suggested changes?
No screen included, I'm thinking of a 21 or 22" from Samsung or someone, they run to about 300-400 Euros here atm. Is low response time the most important tecchie thing to look for after the visual sharpness/brightness of the image?
choices fro a new PC

Ta. I suspect that teh PSU would be the minimum necessary to power the components. They have some shiney ones available aswell, I'll talk to them about upgrading it.
