Using logic gates and a variety of inputs and outputs you can do pretty much anything. I've seen videos of people who've made robots that follow players around, automated turrets, unmanned flying machines, everything.
It's very confusing to use though, and just as I was starting to figure it all out my computer remembered that it hates garry's mod and promtly crashed.
It links to a tutorial in there somewhere, but that's all spread out over a million page thread.
I'm assuming most of you know how logic gates work... since they're quite logical, so I'll just mention a few things:
If you make stuff with logic gates, sensors, outputs etc, set it all up by putting the gates, sensors etc in the right positions, then switch to the wire tool, this is where things get a bit backwards, say you have a logic gate, and you want a sensor to tell the logic gate something, you click the logic gate with the wire tool, then the sensor. For an output that takes it's value from the logic gate, do the same thing. Click the output then the logic gate.
Also, since the logic gates have multiple inputs, you have to left and right click.
Example: You have an OR gate and two sensors, to link them properly you left click the OR gate, then left click sensor A, then right click the OR gate and right click sensor B.
Like I said, it's confusing. I've only managed to work out (or read on the forums) a little, but the biggest help so far is what I've said up there
