Same goes for dogs that dont get walked, or cats that are shut up in a bloody small flat in a city somewhere and never see the outside world. Any pet that isnt kept properly is going to be unhappy. My point was that if the pet is kept properly it wont be unhappy. And if the pet is happy, what is the problem?
I wasn't disagreeing with you Joose, quite the opposite, I agree with what you said.
It's just the parrot thing I may have had some misconceptions about, as I thought that even if you looked after them reasonably well, without constant attention they can turn into nutjobs.

From what I saw at a macaw rescue centre in Keywest caged and mistreated parrots can be quite unhealthy, mental and featherless. It's quite sad to see these large birds in such a state.
She is a pedigree Large Munsterlander and was 2 years old yesterday. Couldn't ask for a nicer more fun dog. She is asleep behind me right now waiting for me to flinch slightly out of turn so she can pounce on me with her new toy - a tug rope. She goes for a 4 to 5 mile walk every day and is friends with the local deer. Well she thinks she is, I'm not sure the deer do.
Before Jess we had Arthur - a Dalmatian. We got him before 101 dalmatians came out, before they were 'cool'. Another lovely dog but was sadly put down at the age of 12 because he had back troubles (which is a genetic trait of a dalmatian which nobody ever hears about - seems most will die of this - the breed is flawed (I guess pedigree by definition is inbred so should be expected.)
I have also been around lots of cats when growing up, but they don't come close to Dogs. Cats do look after themselves a little more, and are more independent. But a dog is much more of a worthy friend.

Horses are thick as pig shit, and I believe that a hamster is actually far more clever*
In reality black beauty would just gallop off and eat some grass somewhere if she saw someone about to fall over a cliff.
Horses have always been portrayed as these wonderful loving creatures that are really intelligent, when infact they are just drones that would kick the shit out of you if it weren't for the fear of them being beaten, whipped or deprived of any niceties.
This is of course only my opinion, and I don't expect anyone to agree with me, especially all the deagostini fans amongst us
I don't hate horses, I just think they are given more credit than they deserve
*once again taken from something I read/heard somewhere

i'm with you on this, but was a bit frightened to say so...
besides, horses are unpredictable, and many accidents happen with horses, due to their aggressiveness. so, if your kid wants a horse, buy her a donkey instead. they are smarter, not agressive, live twice as long as a horse, are good with children and falling from a donkey will only result in minor damage, instead of having to spend the rest of your life in a wheelchair.
