Armed Assault (AKA Operation Flashpoint 2)

Post by Fear »

ArmA: Armed Assault
AKA Operation Flashpoint 2

This game is out in the UK on the 16th of this month.

Having played Op Flashpoint last night with Morbid and Travey and enjoying it this game should be most win.

I shall be purchasing it I think.

What about you lot? A big wtfpwning 5punk gang of 10+ working together in this sort of theatre could be excellent fun.

If anyone can't wait 4 days there is a Czech version out already.

teh wiki wrote:It is a tactical military first and third person shooter which is considered to be a successor to Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis. The game is anticipated to be fully updated with modern graphics, physics and a complete game engine overhaul, including a new streamlined campaign and game editing tool.

Because of legal issues between BI and Codemasters, the original publishers of Operation Flashpoint, Codemasters owns the intellectual property to the name Operation Flashpoint. Since BI has severed its connection with Codemasters and no longer own the Operation Flashpoint name, Armed Assault is considered to be the direct descendent of Operation Flashpoint.

I liked OFP back in the day. It was still quite fun when we gave it a brief go, but I think there was technical issues or something.
So yeah, I'd give it a go. Although I can see there being the usual cat herding problem, and I don't expect co-op games would be as popular as, say, BEEF.

I will try this game again but I suspect it will be one that I just won't "get".

How many people can play Co-op together?

I do not own a co-op game other than Ghost Recon which nobody here plays, so I'd be interested in getting this.

OFP can have up to 16 on each side. Apparently you can have more on ArmA but I've not looked into it in any great detail.

Pre-ordered btw :excited:

I'll probably buy this due to all the hooplah surrounding it. However, after having played the demo it still strikes me as having the same co-op issues that the original had; it just seems a bit too over complimicated for my simple drop in and play brain.

That said, I really enjoyed the single player on OFP, so, given a little patience on my part, I might grow to like it.

The big difference being that you can now join games in progress, which was a real flaw in the first one.

Btw Fear, to be an OFP geek and utter pedant this isn't Operation Flashpoint 2 but a sequel to Operation Flashpoint based on VBS1 (USMC combat simulation developed by Bohemia)... Operation Flashpoint 2 is currently going under the name of just Game 2 and will come out in the distant future and is planned to be an ongoing, dynamic battlefield which you take a wee part in.
