i wasn't sure if this had to go in hardware/software or not, so if it belongs there please re-locate.

i'm looking for something with wich i can convert a film file into a .gif (cut it into frames) preferably something really cheap or even free. many thanks,

If you happened to find a copy of imageready on the floor, that can do it. Not sure about free alternatives though.

I use EOvideo to convert whatever it is to AVI, then imageready to convert to gif.

Microsoft have a .GIF making tool which allows you to turn an .AVI into a .GIF
It's free, but I can't find a link.
*EDIT* I believe it is called Microsoft Gif Animator

it does indeed. however, i can't seem to save the files separatly, it just saves it into a .gif. looks like i'm going to have to :sweep: imageready.
