If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

Anyone got any ideas on how to get this bad boy to work outside of aol?
the only Drivers I have managed to find for it are AOL ones, if anyone knows how I can get it just to accept the connection with a username and password that'd be grand. I am t'internetless at the minute apart from at college.
The wee program that comes with the aol one doesn't appear to let you make changes to it.

Tar in advance.

as a suggestion, if you have your user/pass, can't you just hook up another modem and connect to your DSL that way?
I've got 4 speedtouch crabs kicking about and there are always a few going spare on Freecycle. If you want to spend out, there is a good linksys router/PCM card bundle for sale in PissyWorld for £34
