Some of the pics for this look rather splendid, almost like arty stills, although how they'll manage to pull off the series (particularly the third book) is beyond me. No daemon visuals yet as far as I can see.

Recommended reading, if you haven't - brilliant depiction of imaginary worlds told from a child's perspective, but with enough threads to the real world to keep adults hooked, too. Goes off on one a bit in the third book, though.

I've heard people talking about these books, I'll have to give them a go when I've got my current backlog out of the way.

Hmm - I read these books on recommendation from a friend. Loved the first one, second was OK, couldn't finish the third.

I agree with what you're saying with the third book, but after the 1st and 2nd were so good, I felt obliged to read it all the way through. Very engaging book series. But its being made into a film? Interesting..

I think these books will fail as films... Unless they spend lots of money on cg/puppetry, so it looks so good its doesn't even look fake, because the slightest bit of skimping will make it suck. Good cast though.

I loved the books. Very easy to read, but with enough depth to appeal to adults as well as children. Seemed to contain an attack on organised religion throughout the story.

I'm skeptical about the success as a film to be honest, but really wanted to see the National Theatre's stage production that was on a couple of years ago. Had sold out though. :( I'll check out the trailers tonight.

Appears to be released in the UK on my birthday!
