Nvidia drivers leak potential PC Gears of War

There have been other signs that point to Gears of War eventually being released on the PC, and we're here with another Indiana Jones-like piece to the puzzle. Some Nvidia ForceWare drivers have been turning up with references to Gears of War in them. Now, before the rumor-mill gets into full swing, we'd like to caveat this news by saying the drivers were downloaded from The Guru of 3D, a site where you can download tweaked and modded drivers. They're also in beta-form, so we're not sure if this sign leads to the Ark of the Covenant or not. It's entirely possible these beta drivers include code for an as-yet-unreleased game or, and perhaps more likely, a precocious gamer decided to have a little fun with everyone's expectations. Both Microsoft and Epic have stated that there are no plans to bring Gears of War to the PC in the near future, but perhaps they just meant during the next five minutes, who knows.

Games for Windows will be hitting full swing with the release of Fista, but is this Gears of War rumor the real deal? It took Halo: Combat Evolved two years to make it from the consoles to the desktops, so, following that timeframe, we're already overdue for Halo 2 on PC, which is due with the similarly delayed launch of Fista. So, with a two year gap between console and PC versions, does it make sense to see Epic's shiny crown jewel appear under the Games for Windows brand? If you really want to kickstart this new initiative with a double-dose of Halo 2 and GoW, then it sure does. Two best-selling Xbox games would be a nice reason for folks to upgrade to Fista.

Keep your eyes and ears peeled during Bill Gates' CES keynote, which Engadget will be liveblogging about at 6:30PM PST tonight. Viva la show!

:excited: Gears Of War is supposed to be awesome on both SP & MP, but I bet it's gonna need a really good graphics card to run

Or you could get a 360, it'd be cheaper. It's a very nice looking game.

I second Mikko

Also, my PC needs an upgrade anyway as the only thing I've added in the 2 years since buying it is 512MB of RAM and a hard drive

I third Mikkyo and Hehulk. I'd rather cut off my hands and mash the keyboard with my testicles than play a FPS with a joypad.

Meh, you're all PC snobs. It's not ideal but using a joypad is not that bad.

Nah, I just like games to not make we want to eat the controller in fustration. I find playing fps's on consoles *exactly* that bad.

Using console controllers with first person shooters always seem way too slow for me. It's like I'm aiming in bullet time. With that said, if I had a 360 I'd certainly not let my mild dislike of console First Person Shooters stop me getting GoW

THIS OH DEAR GOD THIS.

I was using a friend's 360 the other night (To be fair under a fair influence), but a controller.. is just horrible.. and to be very fair the xbox controller is particularly nasty.

You're the first person I've seen saying they don't like the xbox controller. It's generally regarded as the nicest of the console pads.

As for FPS on consoles... I don't mind. I'd prefer a mouse and keyboard, obviosuly, but if a game is designed well enough it can be overcome. Black played well enough, for example.

I'm just *really* not used to them, I can see how people enjoy them. But, I had a Playstation, I had a playstation 2.. I've had PCs.. Never even got close to playing Xbox in any quantities. And don't particularly want to.
