Tribulation Knights, a Christian stealth game

A new Christian-themed game is set to fill the void left behind by, well, Left Behind. Since that game ended up being a disappointment in the gameplay department, the upcoming Tribulation Knights might stand as a fun game that manages to tackle a serious topic.

Tribulation Knights is a a free-roaming, stealth-based title set in a post-Rapture world with flying cars. Your goal is to save rebel Christian citizens and lead them away from the clutches of an evil cult -- do we have to escort them, though? The game boasts nonviolence, as you are armed only with an all-in-one slingshot that can disable security systems. According to the official website, the game will sport the "largest environments ever seen in the Christian gaming world."

Sounds like Tribulation Knights, by merit of its focus, might fall into a rut with one of the most notorious design dilemmas: how do you make an escort mission fun?

Do you get to play as Jesus, with 2 bits of wood as a weapon?

Actually, this is quite a good idea in theory. Trying to rescue people by sneaking in and then sneaking them back out. I wouldn't have the first idea how to implement it, but it has tension on its side and it's more original than just going in guns blazing because you can take 100 times more damage than your enemies.

Theoretically, maybe. Im just stuck with the mental image of every escort mission I have ever played before, ever. This makes me think the game will be like pulling teeth.

It probably will be - I hate escort missions too. If they pull it off though it could be good so I'm not going to write it off out of hand, however sceptical I might be.

Its a well known fact, escort missions are only good when the other person can't die/ you have a huge gun

I would love to see the family guy snippet of 'Passion of the Christ 2:Crucify This' made into a game.

:above: This - religious themes aside, the prospect of any game that purely involves sneaking doesn't interest me*

*and the same can be said about games that are all about gun blazing violence.

I think this looks like a really clever idea, especially if you were reading about me trying to find a nonviolent game in the other thread. Except for one extremely obvious design flaw. RELIGIOUS THEMES. Sorry, I just feel making a game based on Christian themes, is purely cutting down the potential audience that the game could receive. Which is particularly foolish on the developers side.

Ressurrection Powar! SuperSaiyanJesus GO!!

Oh, it's a sneak-em-up.

If it's a good game, people will want to play it, regardless of the so-called theme. It might put a few off, but take Driver or True Crime as examples - sure the story was that you were an undercover cop, but they were basically just about nicking cars, punching hookers and shooting everyone - much like GTA is, without the cover story.

If its being developed by christians, the mass market really isnt the point. The idea will be that if even one non-christian plays the game and gets the message, then it'll be worth it. It wouldnt be a monitary profit thing.

Not that I think that'll work, though.

i get the message, sacrifice you're rational and logical mind in favour of a stupid idea. I'd play it if only to make a clan of Atheists or perhaps worshippers of the Celestial Teapot or Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Still, i don't think christian ideals set a good precident for the game and because christians are now more diverse than ever in their convictions it's likely that this will affend some.

:?

I thought we had done this one?

just to recap: you dont have to be illogical or irrational to be a christian, theres plenty of well known scientist much brainier than you or me that have religious convictions.

also...

Trying to get AI to be stealthy is just a bad idea. Hell, being stealthy on your own is tough enough, but combining stealth and babysitting AI is just a bad idea.

not strictly true, as Richard Dawkins has said along with others, these scientists generally turn out to be atheist when truly contested. They may exercise logic and rationality in their jobs but often people (or their subconscious mind) ignores these concepts in favor of comfort of mind, something i expect scientists often crave. Although no one really knows for sure the reasons. Lets not get in to this debate, or at least do it in a suitable place.
Joose wrote: eh? Ideals of non-violence, and helping people set a bad precident?

Well if they are using the ideals of the old testament then yes.

Precedent was a bad word, i meant a bad idea, i.e. todays gaming public wont enjoy it.

Although we're talking about a game here, not a philosophy for life. Lets think of some non violent games, Disney certainly did quite a few, but all were aimed at kids. I cant see an adult gamer giving this much time, i think it's a fair point.
