How to network two computers?

Ok well i want to connect two computers together. I have a p2p cable off someone and well i having trouble how to do this.

What it is i want to transfer files off my old computer to the new computer.

How would u do this? also i dont want ot take it part for this because new one sealed so no!! not really lol

I'm guessing your on XP and all is working as it should, basically all you need to do is right click the folder you want to share, go to sharing and security, click you understand the risk and all that, then tick the 'share this folder on the network' box. Thats all there is to it, to view it on another computer go in my network places.

If you can rewrite this in English and give me some more info (i.e.: what kind of cable you mean by "p2p cable" and what kind of setup you have now) I might be able to help, but as it is, I can't be arsed.

I used to do this with my laptop, and it's as easy as plugging the cable into them both. I can't quite remember how to do the file transfer though - I think you might just be able to see the shared documents folder of the other machine. You might have to go into the mshome workgroup...

Check your firewall settings. I only found recently with my sygate one there was a tickbox I needed to check for file sharing to work.

Plug it in to both computers then run the windows networking wizard from

Start > Connect to > show all connections . 'Set up a home or small offce network'

erm I think that's it?, maybe you have to run it on both computers?

probably. the good thing about a crossover cable is that you can just plug it straight from one computer the other. then it should work the same as if they were on a bigger network.

Don't forget, you'll need to share the folders where you want to get the files from so the other computer can see them. Just right click on the folder you want to share and click on "Sharing and Security ..."
