BF2 Ranked server *read me*

Post by Dr. kitteny berk »

Right then, given we're getting closer to the expiry of our ranked beef server (Monday 29th January 2007) I figure it's a good time to start thinking about the future a little.

In short, do we want to

Continue running a ranked BF2 server?
Rent a ranked 2142 server?
Not have any ranked servers for a while?
See what happens with Quake wars and buy a ranked server (or equivalent) for that?

Remember, we can rent ranked servers from 4u for 3, 6 and 12 month periods. and costs are split between us.

How long before Quake Wars is out first of all? If it's another 6 months then there's no harm in getting another server until then and deciding then.

As for BEEF vs Futurebeef server, it's weird but I'm quite happy on randoms on Futurebeef. maybe if it takes off a bit more on 5punk it might be worth getting another, but as it is I don't think we'd get the use out of it. BEEF on the other hand gives me the rage on random servers, so it's nice to have our own. Having said that, how much more life is in BEEF? So in conclusion:

BEEF = Yes, for another 6 months
Futurebeef = I'll chip in if enough of us want it, but I'm not bothered for one myself

Current words i'm finding are late feb/early march. so probably out mid april.

Then again, a lot of sites say TBA.

Multiplay offer a Battlefield server where you can pick which game to have running. You can only have one running at one time however.

Problem is they're over £110 more than a 4u 2142 server or £130 more than a BEEF server. (which would need more donors or bigger donations) :(

I'll talk to GSP people i know and see if they can do any better too

Ah yes, I've been thinking about this the last couple of days and been wondering where to chuck my donation. Is it still £30?

As far as servers go, I'm all for keeping the Beef 2 one going. However, if theres an option for having a dual 2/2142 one running, and just turning on the one we're playing, that could be good. I may well get futurebeef in the New Year since it appears to be picking up in popularity.

Sadly, I may not be able to donate again next time around. We'll see though.

I'm not really playing BF2 any more and I'm generally happy playing on random servers for BF2142, I think this game may suffer with only the handful of 5punkers and randoms that normally populate our server.

edit: but if you decide to get a bf2142 server I will contribute because I can.

Yeah, it seems that in the future random servers have less rage inducing, sexual preference insult flinging moments than normal beef. Besides, not as many of us have (or like) future beef and even if we all did I don't think our average beef 2 turnout numbers would be enough to have a good game on 2142, it just doesn't seem to work that well with few people.
