Pathologic

This game was featured on last week videoGaiden and it certainly looks interesting. It's only £5 from play.com, so I thought I'd give it a go.

The website says "Best Russian Game of the Year". With an accolade like that how can I resist? I've burnt all the other Russian games I bought this year, they are now redundant.

Last night I only got as far as watching the initial cutscene, which was creepy if somewhat rough in the graphics dept. And listened to some in-game people talking some pretentious gibberish about demons ... probably, it was hard to tell. I will play some more and let you know if it's worth the time. Personally I like something different now and then.

gamesTM gave it 8/10.
Compares it to Citizen Kane.
Uses words like 'fascinating' and 'mesmerising'.
It certainly looks interesting. Keep us posted.

I've only played about an hour or two and these are my impressions:

The graphics are fairly bad but do fit the unnerving atmosphere of the game, it's not a comfortable game to play. I have no clue what is going on so far and there's lots of reading and a lot of it doesn't make much sense to me. I guess it's a case of persevering and seeing how it plays out, it's certainly doesn't seem to be linear.

I can't really recommend it unless you fancy something really different and wordy.
