Game mini-clips

Post by Dog Pants »

As requested on the disco board. I need a few short (couple of seconds) clips of the games we play for a 5punk montage, in AVI format if you please. If they've been recorded by 5punkers that's all the better, but it's not essential. I'd really like the long-standing favourites - COD, CS:S, Eve, Beef (and hopefully 2142 'cos I love it :) ).

Fraps is rpetty damn good, no fuss, but make sure you're not on teamspeak or anything because it will record everything coming out your speakers. There was some footage for NWN2 that I couldn't use because it had Ty giggling like a mong.

Roughly what resolution do you want? Once I've worked out how to mess about with videos I'll post a few clips, at the preferred res rather than the big files I get from fraps captures.

Doesn't really matter. They'll be shrunk down into a 380 x 70 gif anyway.

Ok, I'll fess up. I want to make a montage of our most popular games to replace the chaps on the top bar. We don't play half the games represented there any more and I've got an idea for a nifty animated gif. That's why the clips need to be short - anything massive and it'll be a huge file.

Edit: on second thoughts I just watched that. Don't bother ;) Pete might have something better, if not we'll do a 5punkfleet vid

Video and flash? I don't know how, I only know how to do gifs. Seemed to do the trick on B3ta though.

im not a flash expert im afriad, but im sure it could be done somehow. Whenever i make video with gif, unless its tiny, or really really short the files are massive, and the quality is pretty shite.

Anyone here know much about flash?

I suspected as much. I'm trying to capture an interest but brief clip from HL2/Episode 1 as I know a lot of us play the game.

I suspect that'd seem like a good idea for 10 minutes, then it'd just be an annoyance.

It might be a better idea to grab media/fansite packs for the games we do play and just update the image.

Maybe, I'm just kicking an idea around. I planned on making it quite subtle - maybe monochrome in 5punky blue, probably interlaced, and with the edges fading into the top bar. Hopefully it wouldn't be too intrusive like that and hence wouldn't get annoying once you'd seen it a few times.

Flash 8 comes with a video encoder which converts anything in the timeline to .FLV format. It's good for motion picture, whereas .SWF is more suitable for vector animation. .FLV is the way to go!

There's plenty of source material in the Garry's Mod thread.
