My own opinion, is that if you are on 2.81 or 2.82, you might as well, as the TIFF exploit used in 2.80 was patched on later releases, and now the only firmware hackers will be interested in after 2.80 is going to be 3.00.
The visualisations look really good, and the main reason for this update (amongst security) is the PS3 compatibility.
The sad news, well, it seems the download service where users were promised they could download past PSOne titles and play them on their PSP, has now been confirmed that you need a PS3 to do this, and not just a PSP on it's own.
Sony orginally stated this was not the case, and users without PS3's would be able to make use of the service, but it seems they have back tracked, and are using it as a means on convincing more people with PSP's to buy a PS3.
