2142 video review type thing i made, its a bit shit

Post by Sandwich »

i made a crappy video review type thing of bf2142, it's basically me talking over gameplay. I'm going to do a new one in the near future (on a different game) so i need alot of constructive critisism.

Be gentle, i did all the editing in 10 minutes and i'm sorry for the heavy breathing throughout.

I think you did a good job at pointing out a lot with bf2142 that causes the rage - mainly dieing for no (apparent) reason. I actually got slighty raged myself watching that video.

As far as reviews go it's good, but I think you should perfom an action and then talk over it, that way you can really show the user something, for example capping a flag. With a game such as this you are always at the mercy of the enemy killing you. Better to keep doing the action, then pick the best example, edit it out into a clip and talk over it I think.

I like this.

I particularly like the way you remain calm whilst getting killed inexplicably. BeeF ragers can learn a lot here.

:above: and the way you cooly snipe the dude at the beginning "aha, there you go"

it would be good if you did a review for each class, if you are going to do more.

Not bad. I was thinking of doing something similar myself, Im slightly more inclined to after seeing this :)

Totally agree with fear though; Film it, edit it, then do the voiceover. Means you dont have as much to think about at once, and also means you are not at the mercy of things like not being able to find anyone to shoot

Works well as a reviewing medium though: Ive now a much better idea of what the game is like than before, when all I had to go on was screenshots and talk.

Pretty good review but you didn't accuse anyone of being a "cupcake" for not liking the game. :)

I'd agree with the above ideas about recording first, editing and then adding the voice-over. Your video works quite well as it gives a true representation of what it's actually like to play the game but it's not as concise as it could be and you may miss important elements because of the time restrictions.

I'd like to see more of these and maybe I'll look into how to do them myself. You could attach this to your written review if you like.

*I like this*

Good idea. More of these these would be most welcome in the Game Reviews forum.

Although I'm still not convinced about buying 2.142yet :)

yeah, i will record, edit then narrate next time.

The next one will be on a different game, maybe a few retro games and i'll try to get some comedy in there.

As pointed out above, its a tricky balance. The edited, more concise version would let you cover more factors about the game, but the one as you've currently done gives a better idea of actual gameplay. Its pretty good though, and gives a nice introduction to the game.

I've only seen Titan gameplay so far, so it was nice to see a city map in action. I liked the fact that it appeared to have more of a vertical aspect to the gameplay than BF2 does, with ledges etc, although this may be an incorrect perception on my part.

It does indeed have a little more of the vertical aspect, what with all the ladders and raised walk-ways/platforms.

And the time of spent in the game recently as mostly been non-titan as they don't seem to be as good. Perhaps after the next patch I'll play more and see how it goes.

As for the problem of sniper whoring; I learnt from BF2 that if there's a sniper taking you down make it your mission - the next time you respawn - to hunt that fucker down. It kind of balances things out because often you can sneak up on them from another angle and they don't stand a chance. Sometimes you can even get their dog tags.

I like that. I don't know if your server was a bit empty but the main thing I think it could have benefitted from would be showing some of the big firefights that happen on the tight urban maps. Well done too for not shouting obscenities every time you died - I couldn't have managed such restraint!

I always try to do exactly this, knife every sniper that kills me. I ended up with 8 tags from doing just that a few days ago.

I have a total of 40 unique dog tags now :)

To be honest, I very much liked it as it is.

While it would be good to compile a number of clips and narrate over them to give a wider representation and be able to showcase more of the games features, it would be a shame to lose the spontaneity of your dialogue whilst playing - but don't let that stop you only showing your best bits.

It's so much more personal to have you be like "I'll just show you this..oh, there's no-one here", but the bit at the end where the recording was making you lag could have been edited out.

So, yes a compilation of a number of clips would be good, but don't lose the in-game talking bits either. It's a great style of reviewing that feels just like you're at a mates house having him show you the game - and it's exactly what most TV review shows lack. If I were a games TV producer I would buy it immediately.
