Have you also had problems with the Abbey National?

Hands up who thought this was spam at first? :P

If you have had problems and they're being fuckwits, get in contact with Jessica at the Daily Telegraph

Worked for me!

I was so tempted to post horseys then... I'm RS from Abingdon in case you were wondering
:boogie: :boogie: :boogie: :boogie: :boogie:

Oh, and I ended up getting £225 in the end as the retards at the bank sent me another cheque to cover my housemates charges and £25 goodwill. They offered me that at first and I told them to shove it but I guess they must have assumed I would take it (or more likely they were too stupid/ slow to stop it!)

I left Abbey National years ago as their customer service was attrocious.
I then joined the Halifax who were a growing Building Society at the time, with really helpful staff who then years down the line turned into a massive company full of unhelpful staff.

To sum up, all banks and building societies are wankers, and only offer to do anything helpful if you threaten to leave.

Glad you got some dosh back

It was the hardest 200 quid I have ever got in my life. That article doesn't cover half of it. I wrote a 3 page letter to Abbey detailing all of it (without going into rant mode although it was damn hard not to)

Abbey National: Where NTL Helpdesk Staff go to die

Sorry if there are any 5punkers who work on NTL desks, but I don't know anyone who has had good experiences in trying to get through!

I know NTL has an utterly appaling customer service reputation, but for some reason, I have had nothing but good experiences with them. The service itself is good, and cheap, it got installed and was working in less than 5 days, and the only time ive had a significant outage was in the middle of a thunderstorm, and that had taken the power down (briefly) too. Wierd. Maybe they are scared of me

HSBC are quite shite as far as banks go, too. My mrs is with them, and the chip and pin thing has never worked reliably, despite the card being changed, and getting them on the phone is like getting a shag out of a nun.
To sum up, all banks and building societies are wankers, and only offer to do anything helpful if you threaten to leave.
To be fair, I think the same can be said of any service industry buisness once it gets big enough.

I've had two experience with NTL. The first was laughable - their 'regional customer service desk' was an answer machine in an empty office. However, 2 years later when I summoned up the courage to try again (same crackling, slightly corrupted holding music) they proved amazingly wilco. Had everything installed and working within 2 days, good value, and even gave me a 'no contract' offer because I was in the army and could get moved any time. I dread to think how many disatisfied customers it took to get there though.

Remember:

This is the bank that spent approx £12 million getting their name changed from 'Abbey National' to 'Abbey', whilst simultaneously dropping their highly recognizable 'umbrella' logo.
