Right. With kali comes a big starter-sp boost. You can now start with 800k sp, that is two level 5 skills. Soldier gets Gunnery 5 and small racial weapon 5, Engineer gets Engineering 5 and Mechanic 5, Executive....something gets Leadership 5 and corp management 5, prospector gets mining 5 and refining 5, and so on...

So I've decided to take advantage of this, and finally order a second account when Kali hits. Now, the character will be a highly specced PvP char, and for this I figure Gallente is a nice race to fly. I also like the design of their ships.

Gallente bloodlines don't seem to have nice combat atributes, though (Damn frenchmen :P ), but then I haven't checked their options beyond bloodline. So, since I've done it before (messed up a char, that is. if I trained my charisma learning to the same level as perc, the charisma would be higher :( ) I'm asking here for any tips regarding choice of race, bloodline and options in order to insure the best atributes for a Gallente PvP char. don't want to gimp charisma TOO much though, cause it might become useful sometime in the future.

EDIT: Oh and if you answer, I'll give you :cheese: and :pie:

Don't forget you can experiment all you want with the spare slots until you get a good character. I've come around to thinking that most stats should be fairly balanced now - but with any imbalance going into perc/will for a PvP toon. And those starter skills are awesome but IMO totally unbalanced

Would I be right in guessing these represent about a month of training? While that would effectively devalue existing characters by about a month's skill time, it'll be handy to be able to create a one-off alt and actually have them useful for something other than flying around in a shuttle and price-checking.

For a relatively new player with no learning skills, yes, this is a month worth of skilltraining.

Imo it's needed. The difference between vets and new players grows bigger every day.

plus there's the age old argument, a vet has lots of skills yes, but there's a limit to the number of skillpoints you can stick into one skill area. specialisation makes new players catch up in certain areas pretty quickly, for an MMO at least.

maybe if i get all learning and advanced learning at lvl 5 with attributes 30 across the board maybe, just maybe I would get a third account. can't wait to see how the new stats make me want to kill CCP even more. :x :x :x

You have a point. But look at it from a newbies point of view. You start out in this huge game, and basically have to spend your first few weeks training skills just to be able to do something. Not a lot of players like this, and it seems a bit hostile to me. This way, you get to start out with some decent skills so you can actually do something the first day you are in game. Makes being a noob in this huge complex game a little more fun.

I think this is where it'll have the biggest effect. How many existing players have considered making a new toon (either second account or free slot) but havn't bothered cos it takes too much to train him up to anything useful? I certainly will be making some very useful toons - like an instant occator pilot for example (if it lets me).

But I have to agree, removing the need to train the first million or so skill points will only be inflationary. For example, many corps have a recruitment bar set at 1mill SP to prevent total noobs joining who have no idea how to play the game. This'll just be bumped up to 2mill. IMO, a smattering of level 4's would be more balanced than two level 5's since the time take to train a level 5 is indicative of a level of commitment to the game beyond most brand new players.

Indeed. You have changed my vision a bit. In any case, the effect you're desribing is exactly the one I'll be taking advantage of. I have considered getting another toon / account for a long time, and this change allows me to do it without some kind of training time penalty. :ahoy:

f4wppers should be showing better ship set ups and tactics not how to set destination, that is all in the tutorial which should be completed before they ever do anything. i hate answering how do i set destination and set autopilot. its the damn button on the left with a big A you idiot is what i say when asked that question. but understand what u mean.

with the skills unless they give you all learning basic skills at 5 i really don't see the help this new upgrade will give you. sorry but gunnery 5 is a joke once you have learning skill at adv lvl 4 (min) w/ +3 implants.

now if they are giving our more introductory SP i say existing users get +1 to all attributes cause we all know ours suck

How do I set autopilot?

;)

Also, for a relatively new char, gunnery 5 isn't a joke. not everyone has adv. learning to level 4 and +3 implants. I don't. it still isn't much, but it's something to get you started

hang about....gunnery V and racial small weapon V? thats T2 small turrets straight off the bat pretty much. that would make a n00b(alt) quite dangerous from day one. i thought the point of T2 stuffs wasnt that it was required, but its nice to have. if that is right, then they will have kicked the arse out of the T1 market because everyone wants T2

alright, needs one other skill at lvl 3, but all those t2 fitted reapers and ibisisisiss's.... /me shudders

That's right. Seriously, though. don't underestimate t2 fitted ibises. You can make newbs steal from your can, then attack them. one of them actually attacked back :P

(no, I didn't do this. a friend did, while in convo with me)

I kinda feel a bit cheated if they do this. I just spent 2 months getting Akiki up where she can learn things, Ak just got T2 small guns 3 days ago and he is 6 months old. That's like Blizzard saying all new toons on WoW start at level 10 cause of all the level 60 toons. It's silly I say.
