I think I fell into a trap

Post by FatherJack »

Coming out of Hoth station, there was a ship directly in front of me, and there was a cyno field all over my view. Double-clicked to go past the ship, and it said I'd performed aggresive action. Tried to redock twice, shields gone, logged.
Fuckers.

eh whu'? You've lost me completely. What aggressive action did you actually perform?

Edit: check your logs, it'll say if you had a tackling module flashing inadvertantly or something and accidentally clicked the ship as you went past.

None that I'm aware of. The ship is (probably was) fitted with tracking enhancers, shield boosters, guns, missiles and a tractor beam - no fancy PvP type stuff.

I exited Hoth, saw the ship, and double-clicked in empty space, albeit obscured by the cyno field. Next thing I know an "aggression" message flashes in the middle of the screen and I'm being attacked.

Tried to redock two times, activated shield boosters, but once shield was gone, just thought fuck it and logged out.

Previously I had been checking out the 'roid belts in Hoth, but not attacked anything, then just clicked 'dock' from belt 9 and let it dock me.

Edit: looks more like errorz than trap as I look at it, but wtf?

From the horses mouth:

(For my convo to make sense I first thought the sentries attacked you)

It just looks like you got killed as undocking as it was Captain wotsit that got flagged. They said they engaged you first.

Is there any weapons fire damage other than this in your logs? Did you get insurance payout?

Logs-wise that's all I have, but I haven't logged in since, nothing about the bit where I got blasted, other than this:

Cheers, prob not worth it though, as I got 22.5M insurance and they're selling the BC I lost for that in Rens. I assume they wouldn't give me back my modules.

I lost my Ferox due to 'shitness' and petitioned it. I eventually decided not to accept their new one as I'd have to return my insurance and I wouldn't get back any of my mods - would have been entirely pointless. As long as you go for 100% insurance it isn't worth it.

Low sec piracy sucks balls. We've got a lot of those T1 fittings in Khank, if not I can dig around in my can and see what I can rustle up for you. May even have a cyclone BPC lying around if you want to build another.

Cheers, I got enough from the insurance to buy another one, although I'm undecided as whether to get one, or sell my Cheetah (+cloak) and get a BS. I rarely go out in the Cov Ops, as I can't do much killn' with it, but I do like looking at it in the hangar. :)

I haven't decided yet, I have about 40M in cash, and there are buyers for the cloak in Rens at about 65M - (the ship's not worth much itself) - enough to buy the bigger BS, or the smaller one+mods/insurance.

I might hop in the old destroyer or stealth bomber and try to scare up some more cash, but let me know if you're in a hurry for it and we'll make a deal.

Not particularly. You're probably better off flying it to Marginis and selling there. Get a good markup tho the price of them imo is stupid right now - double what I paid only a month ago :(

So..I didn't actually do the petition thing, as I'd already mailed support with this:

Code: Select all

Hello, I would very much like to know exactly what aggresive I performed here:

[the game logs]

Particularly since I have commited no previous criminal activity, had no active modules, no cargo, was auto-docking and was AFK at the time.

I was attacked upon undocking, which was the first I knew about this supposed infringment, and once my ship (which represented the last six months of work within the game) had it's shields almost instantly obliterated, I logged out, imagining this must be some sort of glitch, or error which will soon be rectified.

Please assure me that when I log back in, I will find I have infact no damage to my ship, no unwarranted criminal statuses, and that I perhaps imagined the whole distressing episode.

My thanks,
Kittychan
They mailed me back today, saying sorry for the delay - they've taken back the insurance and the ship is back in the hangar.

The looted items are gone, but the destroyed ones are all back - about 19M worth, plus it's still got 2 months insurance which would have cost 5M to buy again. So, really only about 3M out of pocket, instead of 27M.

Means I won't getting a BS or selling the cloak in the immediate future, but has taught me a few things, mostly about not going AFK even for a few seconds in 0.4 space, and having a rethink about ratting with 22M worth of modules on a ship that only costs 22M and is no match for even one BS.

Not having a backup ship to jump in has kept me away from the game to a degree, but I was also quite concerned about my security status, as I've gone out of my way to be squeaky-clean. I wasn't expecting to get anything but the ship back, so top marks once again to the Eve GMs. The way they deal with their susbscribers, like the guys who run City of Heroes show that not every game has to have stonewalling, faceless admins like WoW.
