for a while now my steam interface has been acting funny, the store section doesnt load, and neither does the news, i just get a big blank green blob instead, anyone have any ideas as to why this happens?

Best practice for a Steam fuck up is to delete ClientRegistry.blob from the Steam directory. It fixes an amazing number of things.
