Operation Flashpoint
Hello,
Me and a few mates play a regular sunday night sesh of coop Operation Flashpoint. Personally i think OFP is still the best tactical shooter you can buy and these days you can pick up the GOTY edition for under a tenner.
If anyone is interested in joining these sessions PM me. We have fun, but can't be doing with idiots. If you can take a game fairly seriously without tking and all that crap but can still laugh when a squadmate accidentally blows everyone up by dropping a grenade, then give us a shout.
We're a multinational group, Swedes, Brits, Yanks, more. We have our own private server and teamspeak server the details of which i'll give out to PMs.
See you on the field.

ooo
I have the original version of Flashpoint somewhere... will I need to buy the GOTY edition, or can I download all the extras for my olde version?
we'll we certainly could play a few of the cold war crisis missions but really yeh, you kinda do need OFP: resistance. like i say the GOTY pack is under a tenner (pounds) and it comes with cold war crisis, the red hammer expansion and reisistance. There are a staggering number of free to download addons too like tanks, troops, choppers and weapons plus new islands and whatnot. There are even a few litle adons out to improve the graphics like better lighting and that.
I'd say go buy the GOTY edition and start from there. If you wanna play a quick coop mission of the version you've already got to see if you like it, gimmie a shout on Xfire.

Used to play this multiplayer at uni, was great fun. We used to play the missions (serious fun), have mini wars against each other (long winded fun) or do silliness such as tractor races (hilarious fun).
Made more fun by the occasional glitch (which may or may not have been something to do with their wierd anti-piracy stuff, we only had the one legitimate copy). One particularly noteworthy event involved a light helecopter. I jumped in as pilot, a mate jumped in to the passenger seat. On my computer, i took off and started flying about the place, looking for a good spot to set my mate (kitted out as a sniper) down.
Unfortunately, on my mates computer, the rotor started up but we never took off. After a few seconds of confused conversation across the corridor ("what you doing?" "flying around!" "take off then!" "what, again?") he decided to get out. On my computer, he started slowly revolving in a clockwise direction.
More confused and slightly histerical conversation.
He finally get pissed off with my apparent inaction, and shoots me in the face through the windscreen.
At this point, the net code catches up to the fact that our computers are doing different things, and seems to decide that the best solution is a compromise. Theres a bit of a jolt and suddenly we are (on both computers) airborn, with him standing in front of the helicopter on several hundred feet of air, and me piloting the thing with no face. We plummet to the floor, and he dies on impact. The opposing side wins.
Ah, the joy of comedy bugs.

So PC Gamer and Gamespot are stupid?Carwash wrote:No, only the stupid ones. I'll admit it's not for everyone, but to those who enjoy a particular kind of punishing tactical shooter it's really rather woo.deject wrote:wasn't flashpoint almost universally panned by critics?
I'm not saying it does suck, as I have not played it, but I haven't heard much good about the game. And every game has its fanboys...

I think you'll find PC gamer liked it. Its on the PC Gamer budget range, and they only sell games that they reviewed with over 80% scores.
The code is majorly dodgy, but other than that it kicks all the ass; as far as realistic war shooters go, its bloody brilliant.
If i remember the review correctly, PC Gamer said: "Its not a FPS, its a War Simulation" or words to that effect.

Bah, the bugs were not all that common, and mostly they were amusing. Yes, we would commonly see about one bug a game, but 90% of they time they were purely graphical, like guys legs sticking out the bottom of a truck, flintstones style, or mild clipping issues. Game destroying bugs were fairly rare, and usually comedy gold when they happened.
As for design issues; I would be lying to say there were none, but no more than most games, and fewer than most games of its scope. In fact, thinking back on it, i cant think of any specific examples. I dont mean there werent any, they just werent so bad that they stuck in my mind.
I think its good, and for less than a tenner you really cant go wrong with it.

Hmmmm, I may have to look at it, but I need to fill my UT2004 newness first, as I got that for less than a tenner (I think, how much is $18 in £?).Joose wrote:Bah, the bugs were not all that common, and mostly they were amusing. Please do. We do have a forum, but it's not fair to come on here and poach people from the community is it :D If there are enough 5punky b3tans playing OP Flash I'd rather create a new community for them here and have my current team come over. After all, two forums promoting a particular night's session will get more players than one ;DWoo Elephant Yeah wrote:Hey carwash, if you and your mates don;t already have a forum anywhere, feel free to ask me to set up an Operation Flashpoint forum here on 5punk.
The more the merrier mate

Sorted
You're now a moderator for the Operation Flashpoint forum.
Could you post any relevant sticky's, and tell your crowd about this wonderful sticky place
It will probably be a very good thing for you, as we have our own built in 5cheduler here at 5punk, and you can use this to help organise your scheduled games of OF.
