I don't understand COD2

Post by Nickface »

I do pretty well in other games killing-wise. But it seems I get my ass slaughtered about 5 seconds right after I spawn. I also seem to be to "noobish" because I have to aim my weapon and others are just able to consistantly get headshots whilst they shoot "from the hip." is there something I'm doing wrong, or what? I don't understand how I can go from being decent in most other 3d shooters to getting my ass kicked severely.

Probably aiming too high, it simulates recoil more than other games, I quite struggle with it.

Try burst firing the MP44 when german, you can snipe without using the scope.

Also the key to COD2 is taking cover, as the lack of a run button makes it difficult to run around and avoid getting shot.

I too have issues with COD2, as I'm really good at UO, but I struggle to play COD2 successfully.

Other than that I can;t offer much help to be honest.
I've been playing the Merciless Mod for COD2, and it's really enjoyable, so you might want to try that out, as it uses a sprint key, and the classes/weapons vary immensely.

Here's my problems after trying to play CoD2 once again:

Shooting from the hip
I always have a probelm in games when a person who isn't aiming their gun is able to be pin point accurate. This is even more a problem for me when they're shooting a fully automatic weapon one clip at a time. Often when I'm shooting at someone who is shooting at me, I get killed because I'm aiming at him with the sights of the gun rather than just bouncing around like a retard. I didn't realize you wen't SUPPOSED to use the gun like a gun.

Bunny Hopping
This goes hand in hand with the shooting from the hip problem. I've been in 1 on 1 situations where the other side would jump up and down while firing at me and ALMOST EVERY TIME get a headshot on me. I guess I missed the part in history class about how world war II was won by jumping up and down at germans.

Gun Damage
If I melee attack a person, almost every time I kill them instantly. If I hit them with a bullet from my pistol, I just slow them down. It's stupid to be able to put a full clip up ammunition into a person and still have them live.

Capticty for Headshots
It seems like 50% of the time I die, it's because a wayward bullet struck me in the head. Nothing pisses me off more than when I die, respawn and am immediately cut down again by a bullet that wasn't even meant for me. The window for a headshot is way too big.

Grenade Spamming
In a TDM game, more than 50% of the kills that are generated come from randomly throwing grendaes. It's too easy to get them out there and to just go off. Just like with the random bullets, I often spawn then am immedately cut down by a wayward grenade.

I generally don't bitch about games too often, but CoD has really frustrated me to no end. And as much as I'd hate to actually say it, the Battlefield series does this type of game a shit ton better. I've never played CoD1 or UO, but I can only imagine it's the same old shit in CoD 2 over and over again. It's not a game, it's a live movie of your in game avatar spawning and dying.

Can't disagree with anything you've said there, you've pretty much summed up what I hate in COD2.

However, for the record, and I'm sure people will back me up here, COD (and even more so COD:UO) are very different indeed, and far more enjoyable, all be it perhaps not as realistic.

I think they tried to add the realistic elements into COD2, but got it all horribly wrong, and made the game far less enjoyable than the original COD games.

COD:UO really is a completely different experience to COD2, and I very rarely fire up COD2 now unless I play the merciless mod, which is fun to play a couple of rounds, and forget it for a while.

It's really not. I don't think UO suffers from any of those problems. You certainly can't jump while iron-sighted as you can in CoD2.

But then again, these are the reasons -applicable to any game- why we generally enjoy playing amongst ourselves a lot more.

COD2 had it's moments - smoke grenades, the times when we all tried to ninja into a secret place or tree (usually with some joker chucking a nade in), capture the bath. I have to agree though that as far as 5punk games go UO is just generally more fun. Plus, I've lost COD2 so I won't be playing it any time soon :(

personaly i gave up on cod2 when it asked me to reinstall the game to get the patch to work, as it was too stupid to realise i had reinstalled windows since.

i think the most fun i had in the game was when we first installed the tk punnishing mod onto the server and had a few rounds of cow death

Could it be that a significant amount of people are cheating? It's the one game I've tried it on (purely as an experiment) and it was very easy to do back when the game was first released. Things may have been tightened up since.
