alas, although the problem of people being connected more than once has been solved, the original problem remains.

For some reason, no one can download from me for more than about a min at a time. I have no idea why.

What does it mean if it connects to all networks then? I get the impression that this is A Bad Thing, but why? Does it bypass the supersecretness of hamandcheese and allow the common pleb to share our torrents?

I think so, if you seed over the public network, anyone can download your stuff, assuming they found the torrent with some sort of searcher or scanner.

In addition it's possible people can use you as a bridging peer to access seeds within TorrentOf5punk, although whether they could find those is unknown.

In theory.

Wouldn't they need to know the filename, etc. in order to download from you? Also could you solve the problem by turning off the tracker-less option on your 5punk torrent client? (I'm no expert, just thoughts)

I *think* that they would need to know the filename etc, like you say. The reason we were trying to stop it initially is because it seemed to be causing connection issues, due to the fact that the client was connecting to the seed twice, once over ham and cheese, and once over the normal interwebs.

It now seems that that wasnt causing the problem. for some reason, utorrent doesnt seem to want to seed my torrents over ham and cheese. Azureus seems to be working though, so if anyone else has similar problems, just ry a different client.

Making torrents "private" allows access only via the tracker specified when creating them. I've had similar issues with uTorrent only working for a minute or two, so am trying Azureus now.

Shame as I wanted to limit it to the private network, and being made of java, Azureus inexplicably crashes overnight sometimes.

WOO! First torrents created. Seems to work reasonably well in µTorrent without any changes. We do need a place to discuss these though.

I thought you were working on a listing database rather than a discussion place and just putting in my 2 cents. No rush

I don't think he has enough space left for lists as long as some of ours......

:shakefist: Hold on Hold on people.

I'm nearly done with the proper list database. I hope to have it finished tonight.

Please dont use the forum for lists yet, this thing ive been working should be suited much better to the job.

whatever.

The forum will stay there anyway, at least until all the bugs are worked out of prof's thing. (and probably after, so we have somewhere to discuss the torrenty stuff)

Right! Done, ahead of schedule. Please test away and pm me any probs.

http://5punk.robeastwood.co.uk/

to access the site, you need to log in.
username: lists
password is the same as on hamachi

Once you are at the site, you can register your name and email. get the email right as people can tell you what they have that you want etc.

Im working on having a nicer way to upload lists, but for now have a go anyway

I'll have a tinker now. One issue - its "description" not "discription" ;)
