Anyone Else Dissapointed with HL ep1?

Post by Hunterkiller »

I only finished it last week (long storey), and I thought it was way too short and the ending was a bit shit, I was waiting for the game to get started, and just when I thought it was getting good, it was the end, absolute dissapointment!

I feel that its a bit of a "filler" which is not what I want to pay for!

What are your oppinions?

I loved ep1, yes it is a short blast but that is the idea of it, which is why it costs 12 quid.

However, if you play the game for the sake of shooting stuff, you will be disappointed.

IMO the episodic content lends itself more to story advancement than a full shootyfest.

An episode of a game is exactly what I paid my £12 for, given that I don't have much gaming time I thought the length was about right, and the ending with a city exploding... good enough for me, I guess the only criticisim I could level at the ending was that it didn't really feel like there was an end of game bad guy, but then it's not the end of a game.

You can't think of it in the same terms as HL2, that was a full game this is not, you get exactly what you paid for (Unless you paid £25 in GAME)

Now episode 2 with all it's extras really will be worth every penny :likesitall:

That, *HARD* :above:

Also, good idea for a poll, Hunterkiller. Usually we have a poll like this just after release so the hype can be flying high, so it'll be good to see how it fares over time.

Didn't we 'do' this thread?
We all liked it, it's not meant to be a stand alone game.
Think of it as part one of a 3 part ITV drama.

I loved it. Especially the parts in darkness which requires some tactical use of your torch.

yea I agree, its got a lot more storey, but you can sum that up in a quick video, narf, I buy shooters for the action, a story helps, but if i wanted a good story i'd buy a book or a V-DVD. The start pissed me off aswell, lol, i sound so bitter.

Also im sorry if you already had this topic, i couldn't find the thread, is there a search feature that I dont know about? because narf i CBA to search through 13 pages of threads!!

It's no problem.
I thought it had plenty of action.

I gues, but all that stuff was towards the end, when i thought it was just getting good, if Ep 2 is the same, it'll be annoying! I'll still buy the 3rd one, but i'll be annoyed!

The only part thay annoyed me was the grav gun was over used. Some real guns sooner would have been nice.

I suppose also more puzzles would have been good. Some bit less obvious ones.

It was short, I completed it inside of a day. I suppose it was only one episode tho.

That would be AWESOME!

also i agree about all the grav gun shit at the beginning!

But as for the "bad guy" stuff, im not that bothered, its nice, but Blue Shift had no bosses, and i liked that game a lot!

I disagree with that- I'd would love to see how it worked in the original plan where you didn't get a gun until after the snipers.

I'm with the loved it crowd. I don't even think it was that short. The way it advanced the plot in the Half-Life universe (which in my opinion is what sets it apart from other good FPS games) is the best I've seen. I would have been happy paying $30 or $40 for it.

And you have to love the gravity gun man, it just rocks!

But you took down striders in the first game, and (if my memory serves) during Ep1, it was just another strider, I didn't think 'My what a big baddy, this must be the end of the game'
