Legal Music downloads

Post by Lateralus »

Having never had the need for legal downloading of music, I know nothing of this so thought I'd ask here. My missus has a generic brandless MP3 player jobbie, and wants to buy music legally over this 'ere interweb. However, since the aforementioned MP3 player is not an eyepod, does this mean that she can't use itunes/apple music store to buy music? If this is true, and its no great loss if it is really, then where should she go to buy her MP3s?

Despite the obvious abundance of music on a whole variety of floors, she is fairly keen on getting it in a legit manner, so no-go there. This is added to by a family member wishing to buy her some credits towards some music, so floorware is out of the question.

I'd have asked for this, but I just don't buy music to download.

You can use itunes if you want, just for the downloading. It does a horrible job of sorting your music, but I have it downloading free podcasts as MP3 format, which work on anything.

Another option is http://www.allofmp3.com.

Whilst not illegal, it uses the rather lax Russian copyright laws to allow 'legal' downloads.

Close. it's pretty much illegal here.

On the plus side, they've said they won't take legal action against anyone buying from them.

Yes, Itunes can be ok for mainstream stuff, unless it's not released in this country.

A good thing about itunes is that it's DRM is so lax you can burn it to a CD and rip it to MP3 to do with as you wish. People say that the quality gets lowered but if you're using Human Ears 1.2 there souldn't be a noticeable difference.

The problem is that iTunes tracks are pretty poor quality in the first place.

You could always buy tracks with Windows Media DRM and strip it as required.

Meh, somantics; it's either legal or not. There is no way any sane prosecutor would try to job you for using it as the law stands.

True, but it's really not wise to call it a legal option, because it isn't.

try the wierd candle things. I know they appear very hippie, but they work just as well, are less uncomfortable and are significantly less damaging to your ears.

Weird Candle-things have been disproven :(
Contains a clear residue that turns orange and flakey when heated up to give the impression that you've just unloaded a lot more wax than you actually have, apparently.

I like my way best.

Go swiming until you quite serously can't swim any more. Wait a week for the water to clear out your ears and voila, fix'd!

A tangent to ear-wax removal has to be the best in a while. :)

Balls. My sister has problems with her ears (small ear canals, apparently) which means she needs them sorted out at regular intervals. If the candles didnt work, she would be unable to hear.
