If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

start of computer order time

Post by Fred Woogle »

hey, I was wondering if anyone knows of a case I can use to build my sotarage server & my gaming machines in, and preferably put this one into to use as a desktop, need sto be BIG and needs good cooling, will need space for 4-6 DVD drives and about 15 HDD's. ohhh and preferable in black :)

and will be a bonus if I could somehow fit a 4th machine in at a later date

I don't think there are any cases with 15 HDD bays, but this might be something close to what you want:

just beware, it's going to be damn expensive. It costs $270 over here so you're looking at probably ₤200 or something.

it has to be asked, what possible purpose would 5 DVD Burners and 15 HDD's serve? Especially considering you could just buy a lot of the new 750GB drives for massive storage.

If anything can hold such an inherently stupid idea, http://www.mountainmods.com will make it.

I think what you're looking for is called a "rack".

I hadn;t thought of the 750GB HDD's, hmmmm.

But yeh, a DVD Drive for each of them, plus an extra one, I do alot of burning Demo's for people, so the more, the quicker, and I thought if I get a fuck off case for all of them, it saves space, and I get a coffee table ;)

A thought about a rack, but meh, want a case :P

You do know that you can get racks with doors and stuff, right?

Also, racks have way more geek cred, plus you can get your UPS and switch in there.

a case to do the job isn't gonna happen.

also, any time you try to run 4 machines in one room, you're gonna need some hardcore wiring mods to your house, because you'll have to be able to supply enough power for 4 machines, one air conditioner and 2 desk fans so you don't die of heat exhaustion

Unless they're laptops.

I used to run three machines (only one laptop, though) in my old apartment, 24x7.

So what are the other two machines for? Couldn't you just build a gaming machine that will also perform workstation-type tasks?
