How to get the BF2142 beta

Post by Dr. kitteny berk »

First Go Here To sign up for a key.

Then Go Here to download the client.

Unfortunately, we can't run a server or shit for this (it's not in the client yet), so we're stuck on the admin-free publics :(

Played it for like 20 minutes on some public server. Half of it didn't work, like the class customizing. The half that did work didn't imrpess me at all. It feels kinda.. bad.

I think the class stuff requires ranking up.

either way, I really have no good feelings about 2142 so far. :(

After some playing, i can happily say there's nothing exactly wrong with 2142, at least on the surface.

However (this is a big however)

There's just something not quite right in there,

For a start the running seems wrong, all a bit too bouncy (not to mention, the stamina seems to be the same as BF2, on maps twice the size)

Hover tanks are utter shite, they really don't handle at all well, *AND* there's no bonus for the fact they just slide around slowly. (no better ability to navigate shite terrain, no ability to get up steeper hills.)

There's at least partly an issue with the timeframe - I'm 136 years in the future, so why do the helicopter-type things still explode when i even look at a tree?

Also, why the sweet fuck did weapons evolve to be more clunky, harder to use, and less effective than current weapons?

In short, there's nothing *wrong* with 2142, it just doesn't feel right. QuakeWars will be better.

For the whole 10 mins I played last night, I got in a tank, went over two bumps and was down to 56% health on it. Also, like Berk said, if a weapon that far in the future is going to be that big, I want it to have nuclear powers. And the soldiers run like a very fat man rushing to beat closing time at the kebab shop.

Ah, the ol' "Sherman going over railroad tracks" problem from BF1942. Glad to see EA has some sense of tradition...

Yeah, there's plenty about 2142 that just feels wrong. At least I know not to bother spending my money on it :)

I'm beggining to think this will be the case. It would certainly be preferrable to get hooked on a game that's not a re-working of a game I've already spent over 270 hours playing.

/beg mode activate

right, i got a beta key and used it obviously, ty also used it and it worked fine, so i told my dad who is a beef fan that he could use it, and hes just spend 2 and a half hours trying to get it to work as the thing that registers your key kept cutting out with no messages, i got him to download the client again, and then the problem kept persisting, eventually it came up with the message that the key had been used on too many machines already. now after poking about the bf2142 registry a bit i cant see anything that will help me so i am pleading (on my knees) to anyone who has a beta key who doesnt want to play it anymore or doesnt mind my dad using it aswell

pleeeeeeaaaaaaaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee

/beg mode off

Bah. Then I haven't got one. Guess I hit the page just at the end of the offer. It said something like 'wait an hour', and gave me the finger when I tried later on.
